Thread regarding Baker Hughes Inc. layoffs

After 34 years working for Baker Hughes, I got laid off and treated like a crap. Avoid this company if you are still young.

What rakes me is that you are a US Citizen and because you rotate on International work they do not give the same package, even after HR said you would be. If you go by UAE Law as that is where your paycheck comes from, it states 21 days pay for every year for first 5 years, then 30 days pay for every year after up to 2 years salary. They then dare you to take them to court as they have deep pockets and then you are left holding the bag. The lawsuit would have to be in Federal Court, and we all know that the Corpataions have paid the lobbist to make sure they will win.

Avoid this company regardless of your age! There is no loyalty either direction.

Loyalty is over rated, employees are just cogs in the machine. Quit while yr ahead

I also got played off earlier in the week , called into office and told without even any paperwork for my final payment ... Usual baker confusion , kinda glad I'm now out. the guys left behind now having to work 3 times harder to keep up with workload ! Good luck everyone , I really hope things get better .

Personally, I work for myself. It just happens that I have a "contract" with BHI to provide my time and expertise in exchange for a paycheck. Companies aren't our daddies. People should take this merger and downturn to wake up and take some responsibility in their own lives if they're relying on a company to "take care of them." 34 years? Should have at least $800,000 in retirement savings by now.

Speaking from two decades of experience working for large and small companies in the US, I judge that treatment that redundant people get in BHI to be average, if not above. Getting laid off is never pleasant but like a former colleague said, "No big deal. I did not have a job before I got this one." Stay positive and persist. Because as one window closed, another window will soon open !

In 6 months you won't have to worry...no one will ever work for BHI ever again!

Hey Man,

Don't blame baker hughes, other companies will do the same thing or even worse than it.
