Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Lay offs in general

Believe what you want but it appears Halliburton was laying off the newest people first. At least at my location. The rest if the layoffs are mainly performance based, with a few higher paid employees. Those still are most likely performance based as well. Bottom line just do your job and stay away from the rumors. Keep your head down and just do your job correctly. This means don't screw off and call in sick cause your hungover or just wanted an extra day off. I could probably go into more detail but I think you get the picture. .

Halliburton (Carrollton) gave me a layoff notice in the February round of layoffs. No less than seven (7) much younger people were hired after I started with four (4) of them being foreign contractors. Budget vs headcount is the name of the game with HR; some HR clown forecast a headcount of X along with a budget of $Y.00. Productivity and quality is completely irrelevant as long as the "managers" achieve the desired headcount and budget combination. Cost, quality, schedule...pick any two.

It would be very hard for any one individual to determine what sort of demographic got cut. The company(s) here in the U.S. would need to be prepared to demonstrate to the government that there was no age bias, and so would be careful to attempt some sort of balance, though to what extent we will never know. Our picture is severely restricted by not being able to see across many locations, I agree though, it would be interesting to be able to see the whole picture. Certainly from what I've picked up and from my location, quite a number were very experienced, 25, 30 yrs and consequently highly paid, and in many cases, I'm sure still productive, given the chance...

I some what agree with this. We lost a lot of our newer guys first. We just now lost our guys who have been here a long time. So the higher paid employee part is correct here. Out with the old and high paid, and in with the newer lower paid guys.

I don't agree with the post. Not from what I have witnessed. But you can call it like you see it.
