Do you think that the merger of HAL and BHI might result in additional layoffs? I am assuming that each company will purge ranks before we join each other, but that might be just my assumption. If yes, what do you think what groups might be in danger if job reductions take place, and when would layoffs happen? Who would be more affected, Halliburton or Baker?

Must be why you were bought out...you can't use the internet..
Why do I keep reading that this is a merger and/or hostile take-over? It was neither. Halliburton is buying BH, pure and simple. As long as there is a downturn in the industry, expect lay-offs to continue and once the industry comes back, I would expect that Halliburton will continue to streamline its operations until they have what they need.

Going to be a bloodbath, a BLUE bloodbath !!!
Are you serious ????? are you on pot ??? of course more layoffs you fool. Waken up !!!!!!!
Remember that Halliburton will cut in to Baker ranks heavily once the merger is complete. Many Baker jobs overlap with Halliburton in all the different divisions. The said 10500 workforce reduction will increase dramatically then, so this figure should only be seen as the initial figure for layoffs. The final true figure for Baker lay offs will be much much higher. Reading back on this site I even see 60% lay offs quoted. Not sure how accurate that is.
Also forecasts for the rest of the year and next for the industry are very pessimistic. So expect deeper cuts in staff and salary.
Remember this was a hostile take over, and Halliburton hold all the cards. A lot of jobs will be duplicated and If it is a choice the Baker person will be chopped.
Things will get real ugly when merger is complete.
