Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

EDMC is done per CK and I believe him.

How can anyone ignore the many lawsuits and accusations? I'm a former employee and I know that what's being leveled at EDMC is largely true. No accountability from their accrediting bodies and a culture of greed and of corporate management not listening to their employes who actually had ideas to turn the Titanic around. This went on for years.

Anonymous103006, you are a very wise person indeed. I am a huge fan! This blog is no place for filth or bullying, and I couldn't agree more with everything you said. Wish I had worked with someone as smart as you when I was employed by EDMC.

977, the lack of credibility being suffered by EDMC in the marketplace is eloquent evidence that neither the accreditors nor the DoEd has really done a good job of watching over the company (or others like it.) 10293, one of my former students (a graduate) recently told me that she was advised during a job interview that she might be better off if she took her Ai degree off her resume. I doubt any such advice would be given to a graduate of MICA. The current EDMC management has done such a complete job of destroying what was once a fairly credible program that there may not be any goodwill left in the company. The decline in enrollment is not just a matter of the economy, closing schools or shuttering specific programs, it is also suggestive of a very negative perception in the marketplace. Any prospective student who does the slightest research probably has second thoughts about attending. 102964, you must be in either Admissions or mid-level management? Your bullying response is so typical of a certain regional VP (now gone) - you and others like you who resort to such ad-hominem responses are emblematic of the true face of the organization: cynical, stupid and evilly exploitative. You have no business working in higher education. I hope that something of the Art Institutes is salvageable and that the good people who still teach there have an opportunity to restore the institution's credibility. That's probably not likely with a prevalence of sensibilities like yours.

Why call them "fake" degrees? Are you saying all art degrees are fake? Why would Ai be any different than going to MICA? MICA costs $42,000 per year. You graduate with a BS in graphic arts, your pay once you get a job would be the same regardless of where you went to school. Is it ok to charge a lot of money for a school as long as it is non-profit?

True that! I worked for the company for almost 15 years, and it is just a scam. A quick way to steal money from the federal government to fill the pockets of those on top. They make their money and leave. Can't wait to see it all come crashing down. I used to feel bad for the kids, but if they can't understand that the cost of these fake degrees far exceeds any future earning potential they have working at the mall or as a line cook then serves them right. The company is a predator and they target ignorant fools.
