Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Why would anyone go to the Art Institutes?

Robert DeNiro recently told NYU film school grads that they were fu**ed. So why would people continue to sign up for the Art Institutes?.................. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/college-choice-rational-dahn-shaulis

098 got valid points. The opening argument to the string was nyu film students were f...ked per Deniro as a segway into why go to Ai, without recognizing the diversity of the program offerings. That is the argumentative flaw. I do agree the cost is excessive and many of the kids have little to no chance in hell in succeeding . But that's another argment for admissions screening. Sorry , but just because you can fog a mirror and hold a crayon does not qualify you for admission.

104993 makes a bad point. Just because Ai teaches other disciplines, does not equate to a more successful outcome. In fact, I would argue the opposite. Fashion design is notoriously difficult to break into as a designer. Computer Animation? That field was already over saturated before Ai deiced to create a degree for it. In fact its all moving overseas and the two major effects houses in Los Angles just laid off hundreds of artist last year and one went bankrupt. Graphic Artist are a dime a dozen, and with the internet and sites like Freelancer.com, you get people from India willing to do a weeks worth of work for about 25.00 US dollars. The main flaw in your premise is that kids know this is a starving artist path. How can they though when they are lied to by the For-Profit industry about how easy it is to be in a creative filed? EDMC and the Art Institutes commercials and recruiters main selling point is how easy it would be to "do what you love" if only you paid 100,000 dollars to get an art degree. Of course they dont actually get a job "doing what you love", more like do what you love on the side when your day job is " Welcome to Wall-mart!".

Hey Knucklehead 4988, DeNiro spoke about actors and film, lawyers and doctors, I don't recall him (DeNiro) speaking about Fashion Design or computer animation, commercial artists are employed in many sectors of the economy, and AI teaches many disicplines...Anyway the term "Starving Artist" has been around alot longer than either of us.... So why a kid would want to go that route is a matter of personal preference...

104976 You are the MORON here. The Industry is saturated with film People and only a very few will ever see the inside of a studio. DeNiro knows better than anyone the market is glutted and prospective students should be wary of promises undeliverable. Take stock in facts before you spew ignorance!!
