Drinking the Koolaid

As for some of you who claim any time someone agrees with the way things are as "drinking the koolaid," you need to grow up. For the first time since I started working at AUO in Pittsburgh, I can take pride in what I do for students and know that I can genuinely have a sincere conversation with these students. The new Business Accreditation is just another positive step for AUO and what changes they are implementing for their students go above and beyond anything we have ever done for our students. If you don't want to be a part of these positive changes, then why stay? If you are so above this job go somewhere else, so people who actually love to talk to students can do so in peace. And before I get some ridiculous remark, I am not a part of upper management. I am just an AR who genuinely loves to talk to their students and get to know more about them. Stop milking a job you hate and move on because you are only hurting the company more.

Sorry OP this is not Russia, we live in American and we are free to talk about our job in any light we so choose. Pointing out the flaws, errors our outright failure is part of a free exchange of ideas just as warning other students and future employees of all the pitfalls. I know, sometimes the truth is difficult to hear. I actually have a better suggestion, if you dont like what you hear, then stop coming here to read about it. Now, go back and finish the rest of your Kool-Aid, I think I saw a cup with your name on it.

The bottom line, regardless of how you feel about ethics or anything else covered here in terms of business practice etc, is that 50k for an AA and 100k for a BA is just too much for a degree. Anywhere, except maybe MIT or Harvard or UCSD or some other school that will set you on a career path that has 6 figure earning potential. Just do the math. And look at the job market. It's all part time. No benefits. Low pay. And even FT work doesn't cover that huge loan repayment. My god, have you seen what culinary people make coming out of school? You mean well, but inadvertently you are ruining people's lives regardless of the quality of education they may get here. Go to a community college. A State Univ. Try to do it without loans. I did. It took longer, yes. But I was loan free.

Please just go to a loan calculator site and do the math. Juggle some numbers, set up some out of school scenarios. Then come back and weigh in with facts, not opinions.

I admire your desire to help students and want to have a genuine conversation but you my friend are actually the core of the problem. You are doing what is know in the business as "partnership selling". This is what EDMC teaches and preaches to all who work there...get to know them, have a meaningful conversation and find out their needs, goals and values....I suppose after you "have this meaningful conversation" you use their words and insert their values, or goals with words they have previously stated into your presentation...basically doing a mind f*** or sales pitch that is so sly anyone would be tempted to buy? Example...you ask...so tell me what type of career would you like to have after graduation? Answer....I would love to have my own business where I can have the FREEDOM to be my own boss.......later in your presentation you say when explaining the curriculum...in this class...Business Principles...you will learn the ins and outs of running a business, how to successfully write a business plan....so eventually you will have the FREEDOM you are looking for to successfully run and possibly start your own business. You need to understand that years ago...I'm talking early 60's, 70's and 80's EDMC was a great place, affordable and taught sound principles of theory and hands on classroom instruction....now they are facing the calm before the storm of destruction...law suits, investigations and layoffs...great place to work, hope you realize how bad you put people in debt someday....by the way...its no longer koolaid....they have a pill form you can swallow. Cheers!

As a former AR, I left because I could not keep throwing the information to people straight up down on their luck about going to college. I actually did very well while there. I left by choice on a good note and could return if I wanted to. If it was simply about students being interested in going to school and being able to do so without ruining their lives, I would still be there. The fact is it was a sales position that overshadowed the original goal of the company, to educate prospective students. You do not work for the students, you work for the investors. At the end of the day, I can have plenty of happy conversations and 'get to know' some people who I also thought were great people. Many have huge ambitions, but when you are jobless with many kids living in a motel room, I do not feel right continuing on despite their wanting to do so. I loved talking to the ones who did not hang up on me. Growing up has nothing to do with the overall attitude of many. They realize the tactics (call at least three times a day, every day, make sure they complete their first course then suddenly forget about them, make sure you enroll so many of them per week)...........I do not think everyone is drinking KOOL-AID who is there and agrees with the company, rather simply being naive is the reason. It is the business that is the problem. You can check out the other for profit 'The Layoff' pages for proof.
