If the rumor of ~5000 for layoff has any merit, we should see it show up in WARN notice soon. Anyone know anything else to check to validate this rumor?

That way everyone can pretend the "outside expert" gave advice that actually made a difference.
My gut tells me SM will drop the number on us at the next earnings call. Something like "we have decided to reduce operating expenses by XX amount." Then it will be a simple grim division exercise to work out the number of cuts/layoffs/pip/whatever.
The last WARN notice from Qualcomm went out 12/19/2014, so you all have 6 months to enjoy Blacks Beach before the next notice.
