ORPOS has been removed from over 30 stores. Almost dead, not all the way.

Well if ORPOS isn't dead it just the walking dead.
It is official. We bought Nebraska Book Company.
Some on the discussion board seem to think Nebraska wholesale division and their college stores are closing and possibly being acquired by Follett. The article just mentions the on campus store in Lincoln being sold to the university of Nebraska.
Is there any other information?
ORPOS is not dead. If it was, the chief architect of it would not still be here - SS
I heard the NE Book rumor 3 weeks ago by a NE Book operations person.
The Nebraska Book Store is closing after 70+ years due to under performance. Can't figure what took so long as the store has not been a performance leader for many years.
The story is legitimate.
old timer for sure. Proud to say I learned the college bookstore business by working in stores along side Dick Litzsinger, Bob Follett. Stocking shelves, tracking down late orders, meeting faculty. I learned from the best! How can you run a business when senior management has no clue about the industry. When I worked for FHEG, every home office executive regardless of title was expected to be in the stores during every rush. Shouldn't "leaders" lead by example?
This story, written a couple of days ago says a bookstore in Lincoln, NE run by NEEBO is being closed. http://journalstar.com/business/local/nebraska-bookstore-to-close-nu-to-acquire-site/article_0846035c-338f-52e8-a22e-83c4e3e90e3a.html It says the university is buying the place.
There are no other stories to be found. until someone offers proof, this is looking like a pretty silly topic.
ORPOS is dead, not happening, gone, won't be implemented, discountinued, fail. Follett = Fail. So even if they get Nebraska, no new POS to integrate. It means less good IT people trying to patch in a system for all of those stores.
Too many chiefs at the top, not enough people to support any new initiatives. Oh wait, yes, they can! Just work 16 hours a day, 7 seven days a week like upper management does.mmthat will cover the workload as so many others have been forced out.
System integrations will be fine, there is still great talent in IT. I am sure they will work as well as they do at our existing stores. Have faith.
Hopefully they are putting that multi-million dollar ORPOS system into these stores.
To I wish I was Fred: No shit, playing golf all summer.
To Anonymous107024. There is no news because this is just a rumor. Only a fool would buy Nebraska books as it will just drag you down. You won't hold the leases for very long. Besides I heard the same rumor about BN buying Nebraska.
To déjà vu. You are an old timer. Jim Baumann was very good and they should have brought him back. Best president at FHEG.
Would anyone post a link to a news story covering the acquisition? I'm looking and I can't find a single industry news outlet reporting on this.
What a cluster that integration will be. No one left in IT who truly understands how to handle these stores, and can't wait to see how GM and CM handle all of the new stores. Yeah........Nebraska will save us. What a joke.
anyone who knew the "Freds" would agree". Besides being dynàmic and passionate àbout FHEG, they have more knowledge of the industry in their little fingèrs than current management will ever hope to learn"
Either of the Freds mentioned are WAY smarter than current management.
I worked under Aversano, Rosenberg, Padgett, and Christopher. Was the Company any better under them then Jim?
SS shooting his mouth off.
Which Fred is posting? Fred W? Or Fred P?
So when NE Book comes on board are we going to be better at off campus sites or continue with the ideas implemented at U of I, Northwestern and the other dozen off campus stores where we gave up and pulled out. I'm just saying.
DeJa vu--you must be new or didn't remember that under Bauman and his valet Deaton, they costs the company over $20M in profits by over paying to get Stanford, Berkley, FL State and others, and 10 years down the road and we were sill under water with those deals. Deaton wanted to get Boston College real bad and we got it- and it's real bad. So be careful what you wish for.
NE Book will provide top line revenue growth for Follett but it will take years for it to effect bottom line if ever. NE Book has a Walmart mentality in keeping overheads under control so unless Follett can maintain that focus, look for thinner margins. All in all, I'm glad Follett decided to buy NE Book.
Two losers, Sears and KMart join forces in an attempt to survive competitive pressures and bankruptcy. Follett and Nebraska now one? History repeats itself again. Look at the bright side. FHEG management has years of experience leading both Sears and KMart down the road of failure. When Follett bought Untied College Boostores, Brennan Campus Services, Anderson Brothers and Wallace Bookstores at least there was experienced management in place to guarantee successful transitions. Although many folks may disagree with this thought, just give it some consifpderation. The return of Bauman and Deaton to their previous positions would be the best possible déjà vu for all.
