Will they shut down Golden and consolidate labs in Houston? I was told by management in 2010 that was the plan next downturn.

Anonymous98946 That's the thing about managers they seem to live in a cocoon of indispensability happily taken their full salary whilst those beneath them are subjected to cuts in bonuses and overtime. I am sure a 10% cut would not result in a management mass exodus for a start who's going to take them on at this moment in time plus many would be happy like most employees to still have job security. I have over 35 years Oil industry experience and can count on one hand the good managers I worked beside who know the industry and how to manage it! Most WFT mangers have little product line experience or man management skills their all to busy in fighting with each other whilst the workers keep the place from falling apart! We need managers yes but none with an outdate 1950s attitude like yours that what's all wrong with WFT.

98705- your comment is ignorant. I do not work at WFT anymore but was a manager there. The reason they don't reduce managers salaries 10 percent across the board is believe it or not there are actual managers there that other companies desire. That is not to say that all managers at WFT are marketable because most are not. However my guess is WFT still wants to try to get top talent on the market so they cannot just lower salaries at will. If they could why not just have the whole company run by illegal immigrants that they would only have to pay 2 dollars an hour.

Management in general seem to have escaped the worst of the layoffs? Understand we need them but they make up 3-4 pay checks of the average employees also frustrating getting told cut back on everything including overtime especially for hourly paid employees when managers are still getting their full salary? ok basic wage better than no wage why did they not reduce their salary by say10% across the board on all managers who knows it might have reduced the head count being laid off? hard enough keeping a home and family on basic salary when seeing those managers unaffected. And yes I am grateful to still be in a job and don't mean any offence to those laid off or ready to be.I might be next will soon find out.

Whos writing about its just business so get over it? What ignorance!

Firing people as they approach retirement is not a sound business practice, it is pure GREED and unconscionable.

It is a business. Some managers feel threatened by their knowledgeable employees and yes that is who they let go. I believe the older employees were let go simply because they were close to retirement anyway, this left a job for a younger employee with kids to feed. Also, at my facility the employees that have been there the longest (some not all ) have attitude and are not willing to change or learn. It's all sad, I feel terrible about what is happening. This is business though, not personal.

Gulf of Mexioo, Lafayette Weatherford portrays itself as a family friendly company unfortunately their using this layoff to thin out the workforce on the cheap! Many old timers are losing $1,000s in redundancy payments due to capping with this goes their wealth of knowledge! Yes everyone understands its a business although a business which is now showing its real corporate side pleasing the shareholders is top priority employee experience and flexibility putting the Weatherford family first now means nothing! In 6-9 months time the industry will be back to normal will all these people come back? The heart in this case is the employees without them Weatherford would die. You're comments are more the pre war era when employees were seen and not heard things have moved on since then! Weatherford will ride the storm but come out the other side with a workforce of low morale all for the sake of jumping far too early in a temporary downturn.

I'm continually surprised by the comment about companies having "no heart". This is correct. It's a company; not a person or an animal. It's a business that is run on profit and loss. When the losses creep up the company protects itself by tightening up, cutting expenses and an employee at this time is considered an expense. We traded our time for a paycheck. End of story.

Considering they have been letting long timers go...Looks like you are safer the less you make.....feel bad for those who are about to retire.
