Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Why on earth did they wait until Midterms to announce the teach out?

My students are beside themselves with worry. Their futures now hang on the brink and they are expected to block all that out and take a midterm exam? My Admins are so focused on protecting Corporate, that they overlook the impact his news will have on academic outcomes. This illustrates perfectly how education for profit is inherently imbalanced away from student interests. Once I've helped my kids find their feet, I'm out of this sector for good.

Call the States Attorney Generals office. Each state has a lawyer overseeing that's states for profit college investigation. They can't call the students the students have to call them. I called mine and have spoken to her several times on the phone. Good information and it's free and they have the student in mind. Don't listen to the college they want to save money and face and will lie all day to your face. Trust me.

EDMC is being investigated by the United States department of Justice and several other states that have attached themselves....... You can run, but you can't hide.

Show me the person who got their student loans forgiven 100404. Doesn't exist...these people are stuck with credits that barely transfer to other AI's let alone a credible school. The school offers to let them finish their degree and crosses their fingers everyone will drop out. That's like trying to get unemployment after you quit your job....I still love how this site is littered with advertisements for for-profit schools....

Does anyone know the name of the attorney/firm that is investigating EDMC?

Tell them to call the State Atorney Generals office and ask to speak with the lawer who is investigating EDMC and that they want to know what options they have? And ask for guidance on getting out of the loans since the school is a scam and is closing and they don't want that on the Resume to be laughed at.

Well you could tell them the truth--you have lied to them, misrepresented the entire value of their education and are complicit in conspiring to sell the students loans they could never repay. --- nah lets keep pretending it is the company.

@Anonymous100461, students and former students can get better information by getting on "I am Ai". There are currently more than 2400 members. Management people who try to hijack the page won't last long....................https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/aistudents/

It would be better for them to get out of the loans if they can. These are scam schools and the degrees are a waste. Get out of it and start over at a community college. Former student. Take my advice I know what I'm talking about. Can't wait until they all close.

Informing them they will receive loan forgiveness is not exact. They do have the option to work with the school for some relief. CK...you still don't get it that you are not in the know. Move on you overaged white man hack. As for the announcement. If they waited 5 more weeks it would be finals. If it was 2 weeks ago it would be OMG they have mid terms in 2 weeks...so there is no good time that some one wouldn't gripe about. Not busting you, but even if they waited until he break there would be naysayers...so...having worked at EDMC, unless your class is full of students who are well into their program they will make it. If it is a first quarter class you know that by midterms your class reduces to less than 50%...the natural weeding out process. You also know that less than 10% of the students you are teaching ever make it to graduation...not just Ai but any school dealing with the underserved population.

So, I doubt they are that much beside themselves with worry, most don't worry about midterms...and again I have worked for EDMC...perhaps you are fostering your own worries heres.

Now, let the bashing of me begin. It is ok...I can handle it.

@WelcomeToTheNewAmerica, besides linking up with the Debt Collective, try the "I am Ai" page on Facebook too.

EDMC and the DOE let these kids down. I WON'T! I've been sending them here: https://debtcollective.org

and giving them phone numbers and emails of Representatives and trying to get them in touch with Corinthian students. I am way out of my depth here and am well aware that my days at this "school" are numbered but I want to do what I can. If there are better resources available please let me know and I will direct my students there. And thank you for the kind words 100302.

I agree with Anonymous100404. You are going to be let go sooner or later, now is your chance to do something for students that may help them for years to come. How do you want to be remembered? The teacher that just toed the company line or the one who secretly helped throw them a life raft when you saw that the ship was going down?

They need to drop out and get the loans forgiven. That is what you should be teaching them right now if you care about them! Teach them the DOE phone number. The attorney General phone number and Senator Dick Durbans phone number. There it is a 3 question mid term!

Wait until AFTER MIDTERMS?! That would mean EDMC gave a shoot about their students. Now that's asking too much.

Welcome to the new America- you sound like a caring instructor. I was an instructor there for a long time as well- I feel your pain. Once you get into an institution that actually supports you and cares about the students, you will be far happier. Good luck to you!!
