The accreditation bodies dictate what degrees are required to teach college level instruction. There is no Art Institute that is unaccredited. They either have national or regional accreditation. As for degrees, an instructor has to have a degree higher in the field of study that they are teaching then the degree the student is pursuing- i.e. Bachelors teaches Associates, Masters teacher Bachelors, however, many regional and national accreditors allow exceptions when a faculty member has field or professional experience in their area of expertise. The college has to write an exception and has to prove it through samples, writing, awards etc to the accrediting board. This is very common, especially in new areas of study. Most colleges pursue and hire professor/instructors who have the higher degree but as colleges/universities move to more part-time/adjunct models it will be harder to find these individuals. No pay- no professors. They will have moved to other industries or won't pursue the degree at all since employment is so limited.

Oh please, give me a break, first of all, the accreditation body that Ai uses is paid for by for-profit colleges. Its only legitimate on paper but in practice its not respected which is why credits do not transfer to real colleges. So yeah, they dont rally care, its just a dog and pony show. That whole Masters degree is BS too. They dont even care what field you have a Masters in as long as it's a Masters degree. So I got a Masters in Business Administration so now I can teach upper decision animation? That says a lot about the "strict rules" the so called accreditation board seems to care about. Secondly, most artists do not get Masters degrees because degrees do not equate to level of creativity. Creative fields dont work that way. If it did, Hollywood would only higher Shakespearean actors for all their movie rolls. Creative adjectives dont hire on resumes, they hire based on portfolios. If you look awesome on paper but your portfolio sucks, they will not hire you. But if your portfolio is amazing and you resume is weak, you can still get the job. Multiple degrees actually suggest you are book smart but lack real talent. Most of the worlds greatest artist didn't even go to art school.

It's amazing what the accrediting bodies have let Ai get away with. I taught at an Ai and I knew faculty who taught creative courses in bachelor degree programs who only had bachelor degrees themselves or who had masters degrees from South or argosy in business or education.

We have instructors teaching without a Bachelor degree at AiOHC. Of course we told HLC at our accreditation visit that we didn't but we do. The Dean didn't even have her masters while being the Director of fashion at one point. Perhaps HLC should have actually asked to review faculty files and they would have noticed!

For clarity. Faculty with a Bachelors can teach Diploma and Associates. A masters or higher is required to teach a Bachelors. That is the rule across the board at any college.

Walk out? Did anyone look at the calendar? The on ground faculty and students will be on summer leave until after July 4th…classes for the summer will start on or after the 6th of July. It’s not likely…

I worked in academics at an Ai. The campuses have many faculty without masters degrees which is against accreditation requirements.

102104 is correct. I work in academics. It is very, very hard to find qualified faculty right now. I don't just mean good instructors - I mean anyone with the necessary degrees who will do the job. We often have to hire faculty who don't have masters or else have to cancel classes. I know other campuses I talk to are similar in this.

Anonymous102092 , that funny. Actually people are not lined up to work for EDMC. Ask anyone from the schools, they'll tell you how hard it is to fill a position (and not because they are under qualified). It's because they also realize the negatives and are only looking for a short term fix to their problems. Anything with EDMC is short term anyway. Haha, your answer was funny.

If you walk out, just keep walking to the unemployment offcie. There are 10 people waiting to take your job.
