Should the students prep themselves by getting their transcripts and FASFA info before they walk to school to find a locked building and sorry message on the door? At least then they can maybe get credit received at community colleges where they can restart and salvage they're education and maybe get into a real school.

I second getting an OFFICIAL transcript. Maybe two. Have the school stamp on the back of the sealed envelope.
Request an official copy and keep it in the sealed envelope. If the envelope is opened, no college will accept the form. FAFSA info is easily found at FAFSA.ed.gov
I would advise any student to get their current transcript right away. At least they'll have something to try to present to the next school on an attempt to transfer credits . At a minimum they'll have something to dry their tears and wipe their asses with.
