Thread regarding Baker Hughes Inc. layoffs

Mechanism of Baker Hughes layoffs (Selective or Systematic) !!!???

I have worked at Baker as manager for just 8 months! Suddenly I found HR Manager access my office without previous notification to tell me that I have been laidoff due to cost reduction requests and then he put termination documents on my desk and asked me to sign immediately😵.

I was really surprized.

My last evaluation was very good and I was working on valuable opportunities as well !!!

I hope to know who have nominating names to be laidoff !!?? And based on What ??

The HR behaviour way was very disappointed and indecent.

You are absolutely right. I was working closely with the completions manager, from US. He was very active and dedicated. He had been awarded 8M USD tender by one local oil company. The shock was that he received his termination letter directly after signing the contract! Where many useless people still preserving their jobs. Some of Baker management are rascals!

"the truth" has it about right. I'm an exBHI manager and have done this far too many times. HR really doesn't care who, just how many based upon the $$ target to shave. They provide you the number to cut and pretty much leave you to it...your call who stays and who goes. There used to be some caution wrt gender/race but that seems to have died down. Now it's just hit your target number of souls and git-r-done. Oh...forgot to mention that this 37 year employee got the axe last month:)

Well, maybe the layoff-selection method is different at different location / area. But I am sure the method of the excel formula with salary range criteria was used to pick the victims at CTI-Yorktown Plaza (Houston), back on Feb. 2015 major bloodbath. There were a lot of un-expected upsets at that time. Managers, Directors, Engineers, ALL Drafters, Buyers at different grade levels had the same work-ethic mentality like you (who were willing to die for BHI, worked more than 10 hours/day, considered CTI as their house) were gone at that bloodbath with shock. A famous test lab manager was let go, regardless how much effort he put into BHI for years (you can easily find a lot of lab documents prepared & signed with name. A group had only 9 employees (including the boss) was let go 4 employees, even that group was in the middle of some huge project. By the time that boss knew about the huge deduction, it was already late. Another group was immune from that bloodbath.

Just focus on the new job search. Good luck!

This is incorrect. When I was approached by HR to release people I was given a number, as in 'release 2 people', I then requested my supervisor to provide 3 names, 1 being an alternate incase the possibility of complication. I did not question these names my junior manager provided.

There was no excel sheet. We had total discretion of who was released without question. I sense that this notion of a formula is a legal-speak meme asserted to prevent you from knowing the truth. These individuals who are pushing the 'formula' nonsense are spreading disinformation which is designed to sway your opinion. Think for yourself. Question authority

Thank you dear for the clarification. You've answered some of my wonderings. But the question is "WHO IS THAT SOMEONE ?"

I heard the Geo management have established committee to pick the names.

To Anonymous109533: Sorry for your layoff. To answer your question: I believe in the termination package, there is an excel sheet. "Someone" sets the criteria range, based on the salary, comparing within grade level of job title. Also, in the excel file, there is no name stated, only the employee ID number. Then, "someone" sets the excel formula. Even if your salary falls into the minimum of the range, you are picked. Your direct manager doesn't even know, until the last minute, when he/she receives the termination package from HR.

I agree with you about HR's attitude when they handed out the packages to the victims. I always wonder when will be their time.

Given your poor grammar and and complete disregard for any semblance of proper English, it's a wonder you were ever hired initially. Either you are complete dummkopf or a stinky curry. Go back to India and eat your stinky curry.

There is no algorithm, no macro, no selection process other than

Upper management / HR confront junior manager

"We need to drop 5 employees in your department"

junior manager says

"Ok let's get bob, James, joe and Curtis. they hurt my feelings and make me feel insignificant by disrespecting my authority, I'm god I get to choose who keeps their job I'm important "

HR then replies. Is that your final answer ?

Yes

The. So let it be written. So let it be done

It's all buddy buddy good ole boys white is right and if you hurt my feelings you lose your job. That simple. And that my friends, is why we fail. The good workers are kicked and the insecure twerpy little managers and their friends keep their jobs and produce nothing

Sorry about that, but,... HR LIVES for times like these. They're weasels. Every last, stinking one of them. If they're smiling to your face, they're ready to stab you in the back. Don't look for reasons or answers,... there are none. Good luck.
