Which is why the ReedHycalog and Drilling and Intervention split just took place. Can't or don't want to sell large portions of the company? Easy, just reorg and package up whatever the buyer is looking to buy, along with some garbage you don't want anymore, with a bow on top.

Neither SLB our GE acquiring NOV would get by the DOJ or the FTC in their current forms. That would combine way to much of the industry into too few suppliers.

SLB, Dresser Rand, Dril-quip, Cameron, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, FMC and Flour is in better shape than NOV regardless of layoffs

Maybe the layoffs will position them better to be bought out from SLB or put them in a better position to acquire Weatherford, Greene's Energy or Volant. I am just saying.......

SLB has laid off a lot of their workforce as well so how are they in the position to purchase NOV?

Regarding an SLB takeover: It's not likely that they would want much of NOV. They already have their hands full with other priorities the rest are expendable. If you are not 100% certain that you are in the top 25% of performers, then you almost assuredly are not.

GE Is Amassing A $40bn War Chest, Eyeing O&G - Takeovers Coming?

Given GE's size, and the size of their war chest, the company will need to do big deals to make it worth their time. For context, a $40bn war chest is enough to take out the combined market value of the Big 3 equipment companies (National Oilwell Varco, Cameron and FMC Technologies). That said, smaller tuck in acquisitions aren't off the table, and GE continues to surface in conversations about bidders for the assets Halliburton and Baker Hughes need to divest to merge.

It would be great to be part of a company like SLB

They are one of the most admired corporations in the world and take real good care of their people

We should all fear the smell of the Snide Managers we work for.... Hopefully the backstabbing, non-accountable, blame game playing manager will be let go of first and foremost relieving the company of wasted drama. The hypocritical beasts of thumb ring wearing fools know who they are!!! Yippy Hippy!!

This rumour has been going around for some time - would they be allowed? SLB have laid-off staff which would seem to clear the way for bringing in another company with lots of staff but I cant see this happening. In the current climate it just wouldn't make sense. I'd like to see a credible source for this being true....
