Retalon

Retalon is doing PO's for fall. How long before text managers get shown the door?

Retalon isn't really garbage. Follett's approach to software implementations under TDs leadership has always been meet the deadlines and install on time, blame the users for failures, and only deal with issues that impact high profile business partners. High profile meaning those TD saw as stepping stones to his own personal goals. QA Isn't to blame nor the vendor.

So far Retalon has made over 50 pages worth of PO's for an H level store. Yep, great success!

I did the math, Retalon with save the company upwards of $30 million in payroll alone. They'll pay team leads $10 hour to set the shelves and pass up bigger issues to the Course Materials Analysts. You can make a lot of mistakes with a $30 million cushion.

Some larger stores kept the position. They paid unqualified people less do staff the positions. Relations with faculty has suffered. Adoptions have suffered. Time to put this staggering old horse down!

To 110309... the company will probably outsource that task too.

Someone will still be needed to do publisher returns and answer calls from faculty as to why the wrong book is on the shelf.

To all you text mangers (still with Follett)... a little warning or strong suggestion that you better brush up your interviewing skills and resume because you should always be prepared for the "unexpected"... no matter the size or title of your university/college.

RETALON will be Follett's swan song

NBC tried this and it was an unmitigated disaster. They got rid of the textbook manager title and many tb managers outside of the bigger stores. Neebo had many bad ideas, but this was on up there with the worst. Orders are always wrong, professors get pissed off, contracts are lost. You may be able to get away with it at some of these smaller stores, but larger ones will still need a textbook manager.
