The whole point of employee groups is to mainstream diversity to a point where it provides minimal liability and exposure to discrimination suits. Just look at the groups out there and tell me that they do not represent a typically leveled discrimination category. You don't see groups being formed by employees that run triathlons or compete in mudder events.
