Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

My take on Chevron

Pro:

FAT FAT paychecks and I love it. Sprinkle that with work and life balance and I am LOVING it. Call me FAT & LAZY which is a good intro for the cons section :-) I enjoyed 15 years of watching my kids grow with a cushy job. And I am an expat as well :-) Well it lasted for a while so time for me to pack up my shit and go. I am competitive enough to find another job in Middle East. Dubai here I come....

Cons:

  • I come from Schlumberger. Boy a boy was that a shock. Come from a top-down shop to a group hug, consensus driven nightmare. Shit the janitor needs to be in the room for a decision.

  • I haven't seen so many incompetent managers in one place in my entire life. They reward incompetence at all levels. Outspoken folks are punished and even fired.

  • Actually I am so disgusted that I will end right here and right now :( Is not worth my writing time

And for the ROM guess what, managers will just do the musical chairs and keep firing the Indians. Is ok they will hire more consultants to do their job.

Unless Chevron does a radical purge on its management the culture will never change, and that is a culture of FAT & LAZY. Forget about quality in their work :-) Chevron don't know how to spell that

Good luck mates and I will see you on the other side :-)

I can barely imagine the shit storm that awaits those of us that are not canned. I'm convinced we keep a lot of bad people. Look at it.... the people that will get let go... the bosses will have to defend their decisions to get rid of them. Only documented defense are PMPs. So what's the big deal then? The bad people will get dropped right? Nope. Because the useless, dead weight, brown nosers get good reviews. Meanwhile the useful employees that speak up and do good work are punished. Punished with poor reviews because we actually have tangible results. Results that are used against us. Picked apart to make us look bad. So who do you think will be let go? Who are the dependable fires?

Ahhhh a man the fully gets it! You are a very enlightened man....which means you are not a Chevron team player! I love the "I am stealing my paycheck" from another poster. I am leaving this hell hole and I will use that on my exit interview.

Man this is spot the f*** on......I just got on here after having a talk with a Chevron buddy. I told him I think I may get arrested....he said for what....I said for stealing my paycheck for the last 5 years. And I am with you my friend. Speak up....get segregated. And as you I have a fracing background and can run coil, slick line, flowback, perf, and frac.......You know we will actually get a pay raise in this awful market. I still laugh at this....the Managing Safe Work process advisor for upstream capabilities was on a field trip....in the job for years....she asks me...."what is that"...what is what I ask and she point to a well head....I am thinking....lubricator, A section, B section.....NOPE....she did not know it was a well head :-).

Guess who are on the panel judging who will be cut and who stays? The same managers and execs that have survived the last ROMs. They are above the fray. Chevron is Enron reborn and ironically inhabit the former Enron towers in Houston.

Easy cowboy :-) I still have work ethics and I pull my weight. Fat & Lazy didn't mean I didn't pull my weight mate :-) I am one of the good managers, I care about my folks my deliverables and the youngsters. We're having lots of fun in our little circle and I can sleep well at night. I love my team and they love me back. I earn my pay check but most of the managers around me are not. Bunch of lazy morons. I can look back and say I left something behind and is time for me to move on. Kids are in college so I can get back on the fast lane. Probably go back to Schlumberger which is a great company by the way.

Here is the reality. I am working at about 50% of my Schlumberger capacity here at Chevron and I still run circle around the Chevron folks. Now you do the math.

I think he is right though. Anyone who came from the vendor would describe the same thing. Now that I think about it most the people who actually do the work are x vendor or competition (thanks xom). Most management in etc are just there in the rotating pool. Cvx is to big to fail. It will also not purge management. It is doomed to flop around until times are better.

Go f*** yourself. You're the reason we are in this mess. You and your cronnies. All of you can go to hell. A lot of good people are soon to go without a paycheck because of your kind.
