Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Problem with Qualcom

Qualcom suffers from the same issue as Intel. They have this big money maker (licensing) and use the money to support all sort of stupid projects that will never yield a single penny of revenue. These projects are pets of senior management which is why they linger on for every. The engineers working on them are either too stupid to know they are doing BS work with no real value or realize it but keep doing it because they get paid. The only way for Q to turn it around is to replace most of the top execs and hire people that will come in and clean things up right. (Likely 30-40% reduction in headcount). This will happen to a lesser degree if the company gets split into two pieces since the licensing portion will slowly creep back to what Q was originally while the semiconductor portion goes through a long slow painful death.

Guys, any layoffs in the bay area? I heard there are several groups there not generating good revenue, but the mgmt still continues to support the projects.

Iridigm, and don't forget the $20M IP investment that QT&L passed up which became an $800M blackmail from Broadcom in 2009, and made every single USA service provider swear they would never single-source products from Qualcomm ever again. The people who passed on the $20M IP investment ("It's only software how could it be worth anything?") Are all still VPs at Qualcomm.

well this is all well known.....mediaflo, toq, brew and there are many..... but the management allowed it to continue..... why rock the boat and ask difficult question??? when self preservation and promotion become key then the company looses.....and too many in the management ended up doing that....
