Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

WFT announces 1,000 more layoffs in the U.S. with focus on "support positions"

"During the second quarter, we successfully completed substantially all of the previously announced headcount reduction of 10,000. The aggregate results of these measures will help mitigate the effects of the downturn, while at the same time, take advantage of the opportunity to develop a leaner structure and a tighter organization. This target has now been revised upward to 11,000 with the increase principally in the U.S with a focus on support positions."

Do support positions include field offices / billers? Or just corporate offices in Houston??

About five years ago, the Riverton WY., shop changed management. The new manager had no managerial experience. He barely worked a full day. He made horrible choices. Nepotism was prevalent.

He is still in change.

For the sake of the company please stop making poor employee choices.

Weatherford is too top heavy with management. There are layers and layers of supervisors. These are all large salaries which should be cut first but this is not the Weatherford way. The stockholders should demand that all the layers of VPs. The abundance of supervisors are the employees who should get the pink slip first. But instead the poor working soul who earns a paycheck will get the ax. This is why if the oil stays down in prices Weatherford will file chapter 13 bankruptcy

Too bad they won't make the right decisions. Half the management is too old to last much longer anyways. When it does pock up they will retire. As slow as it is they will ride it out and keep getting the free money and perks.

You can cut all jobs but the ones who do all the work. The managers. With out us it's over. We need our P cards to pay for golf and boxes of shirts and shit, Don't worry about all of those lunches. You bought them with your job.

As far as support and office jobs the admin is the brain of the entire office making it run and keeping it afloat the others in the office usually get all their info from the admin - admin updates spreadsheets and send to manager to send to upper management... Enters all payroll and pays the bills puts revenue into the system. Low man on totem poll but most valuable. The others positions in the office are just for show and Hardley do anything all day except take a few calls and take extended lunches on weatherfords dime.

Ha ha I find this really amusing. I have a manager who earns 80, 000 dollars plus bonus and has never worked a full day much less a full week and his right hand salesman earns 65,000 dollars a year and doesn't even know how to price a ticket.

At my location the office admin does the most work and is the least compensated employee. So good luck to Weatherford if that's who they choose to lay off.

I think bogus positions such as the Competency Manager of the Western Region should be eliminated. She doesn't do anything that benefits the business and is grossly compensated for her lack of skills. But...that won't happen. Her girlfriend Tracie Breedlove will do anything to keep her employed.

Instead of weeding out those SALARIED employees who (during this down-time) come in late and leave early, play on their computers all day, take long lunches and are basically just there for the paycheck, Weatherford ALWAYS chooses to get rid of Support Staff. If you cut the 'supporting legs' off of anything it falls to the ground! Wake up Weatherford, instead of targeting EMPLOYEES based on their TITLE, start targeting the LOSER EMPLOYEES who do NOTHING and still get a hefty paycheck regardless!

I work in HR and we definitely need to hire more HR. I am forced to work overtime because we are so busy at the moment. Thinking of quitting with this ridiculous work overload.

It's more than just office admins. Support can include accounting depts, billing, finance etc. Any department not bringing in revenue for the company. Of course we still need some people to do the job----but how many?

It's probably office admins. They've been trying to get rid of them for a while.
