Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

In the long run, people leaving Q will be a good thing.

For the longest time too much of the employment opportunities have concentrated at the Q. And while that was good when the Q was doing well, it's definitely not good for tech workers that are looking for a competitive compensation. With this RIF that is going to happen, there will be some initial pain when people have to leave. But a lot of you people will end up working at startups and some of you might even be one of the great innovators that hook up with other creative types to start your own startup. And with that, all of you will be contributing to the growth of another company somewhere else, which in the long term, should help improve the employment opportunity for the tech community in general. There's already some grumblings about a few leaders starting a few IOT incubator projects if they were to leave, and I believe some of them actually have seed money. So stay tuned..

So just how does a laid off engineer get hired at a Startup? List me some hiring startups. Where do you find them?

They are mostly SOFTWARE.

They aren't on the job boards.

They don't know hardware and surely can't pay what everyone's lifestyles have been accustomed to.

And probably they don't have to.

I've been trying to find Startups, go to all the various meetups etc. Not seeing them. Really, haven't found one.

The good people are being forced to move to the Bay Area. It is a different world there.
