Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Bartlesville

Any word on the company's commitment to remain in Bartlesville with this new independent model? Have heard there are empty buildings in the complex in Houston so have to think they will want to move departments to fill space. Does the old corporate shared services concept fit with the new independent company and decentralization? Could be beginning of end for Bartlesville.

Bartlesville is a spectacular place to raise a family. If you don't like it, get a new job. Not everyone wants to drive past 40 Starbucks during a daily 2 hour 15 mile commute. With that said, if it's your thing, I respect that. We don't get to hang out at Texans games and hit balls at Top Golf, but we sure as hell enjoy simple small town American life. And don't forget Bartlesville and Ponca is where it all began. It wasn't a bunch of primadonnas in Houston that made it to the big leagues.

Reduce Bartlesville employees, get rid of the shuttle jet service now shared with P66. Big dollar savings. Salary reductions coming next. Cost cutting is coming from everywhere.

Bartlesville isnt closing. At my position I would have heard if there was talk of closing shop.

Nice try Millennials !! Just because your stuck in college DOES NOT mean this place isn't a quality business decision......

Heritage Phillips employees saw these situations BEFORE YOU WERE BORN, and Bartlesville is stronger than its ever been !!!

Boohoo y'all took the job in Bville. Miserable people are miserable wherever they go. Maybe make a friend or two and enjoy life as it is instead of wishing for what it's not!

Bartlesville hasn't had a Lubys in about 20 years.

124273 - "Oh yes the new super Wal-Mart is good viewing for the meth addicts of Bartlesville." but what point are you trying to make? It is good viewing for them. Am I missing something here? It's either that or go watch the seniors with their walkers try to get through the buffet line at Luby's without spilling their tray. The only restaurant with an ambulance permanently stationed outside.

At the current price of oil none of the business units make money. The infatuation with Bartlesville is an unproductive distraction at best.

124206 - You need to go back & take some general business & economics courses. The service groups such as Finance, Real Property, IT, HR, etc DO NOT MAKE MONEY, so their costs are strictly related to people. It is CHEAPER to keep those people in Bartlesville than in Houston. The LAND & MARKETING groups, as an example, DO MAKE MONEY, so they need to be close to the action. Additionally, it is cheaper to have service groups centrally than to decentralize them which creates the need to duplicate assignments for some jobs if decentralized.

Any value B'ville offered the company is long gone. Good riddance. Independent oil companies keep everyone in one place, not in some crappy town away from the center of business.

Bartlesville used to be a terrible place. But they razed the old Walmart and built the new Walmart Supercenter. It made all the difference. And it doesn't take an hour to drive there. Losing Marie's steakhouse was a huge blow though.

Maybe you shouldn't be so damn gullible then. Corporations are always going to do what's best for the corporation. They don't give an F about you and your desire to transfer to the big city unless it benefits them somehow. Lesson learned. Don't take a job in a location based on the promise to transfer to another location

No Bartlesville is a god forsaken shit hole. The recruiters and the hiring managers lie to new hires to fill roles in Bartlesville.

Ha! It is so funny that every interview with the Millenials includes a buildup of COP's presence in Houston as well as highlighting career possibilities which translates to their perception that they can be the next CEO's with an imminent move to Houston. Well, how about a taste of reality. Everyone has to earn their spot in this world. In any organization there will be worker bee's as well as a SELECT, much smaller group of leaders. The fact that Anonymous 122809 was laid off after only four years means that he didn't meet the qualifications to retain for the worker bee or leader groups. Bartlesville is a wonderful place to raise a family, and it has a lot of value to the company.

Gotta love the Millenials crying about how terrible Bartlesville is. Nobody made you take the job there. Believe it or not, some people enjoy living in a small, family oriented town. Houston isn't for everyone just like Bartlesville isn't.

The end of Bartlesville could not happen soon enough. Interview focused on the future roles in Houston in a 12 month time table but over 4 years later continued to work in Bartlesville. Never so pleased not to show up to work every day. The layoff was a blessing not in disguise.
