Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Is Qualcomm in the midst of a hostile takeover?

So we have minority shareholders JANA pushing for QCOM split, which will definitely mark the beginning of the end. The executives bend over backwards to appease JANA with layoffs + share buybacks + having executives handpicked by JANA sit on the board. None of this so far has yielded a rebound in stock price. Perhaps the market has become more aware of activist "pump and dump" strategies? Or maybe JANA is orchestrating fear for a big rebound in stock price because QCOM core licensing business is still generating insane amounts of revenue? Assuming QCOM is not hit with more penalties like with China, we will be breaking records in revenue for the years to come but JANA's greed and opportunism may have raped the company longterm. What do you think?

More's law strikes again, I suppose. It took Nokia 10 years to wind down from being the #1 consumer device people just had to have. Will Q get it done in 5 years? Apple's next for sure. There's only so long that iPhone is the consumer #1 device to have. There will be the next thing very soon now, and there is no no guarantees that Apple (or Google) will be able produce it.

JANA is just the tip of the spear, IMO. Over 80% of QC stock is held by institutional investors, and I doubt they are very happy over the trend; probably picked JANA to storm the beach. SM and PJ think they can avoid a GTFO by working with JANA. The board ( the one that GAVE those two hogs their own $100 million dollar trough ) were just puppets, hopefully some new blood will inject some reality into the situation...

I think you're delusional. Breaking records for revenue? Chips are increasingly commoditized, and if Mediatek and Intel don't outright start eating our lunch, their presence will force us to lower prices to maintain market share. Also, other countries are going to do the same thing China did to protect their OEMs. JANA didn't cause it to be over for Qualcomm, it's a lack of vision by the management. SM and the board are running scared as well because over 40% of shareholders already rejected the executive compensation package, so they know they're on thin ice.
