Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Raises

All of the college new hires that had I've year if service in June got a nice hefty raise. Must be nice they got a huge raise and no one else did. COP should focus on keeping sine talent and chill out on hiring hundreds of shitty college kids who only stay for a year.

I'm constantly shocked by how much we waste on college donations and kissing the asses of college recruits that we probably shouldn't want to hire if they have to be pandered to in order to accept an offer. I respect college kids because I was one of them 12 years ago, but it is crazy how we blow money on them compared to other independents.

There's an "old" saying in a bust or any economic downturn for that matter called "Just be thankful you still have a job". I'm surprised to hear anyone at any experience level got a a raise let alone a substantial raise given the current market (by far the worst since 1986). New hires especially have nowhere to go. Practically NO ONE is hiring at present and for those few open positions out there, there are hundreds of far more far more qualified applicants than someone with 1 year of "hand-holding experience." Don't expect to negotiate a substantially higher salary today either as no half-way intelligent management practice would grant that kind of leverage to an entry level employee.

This is yet another example of how bloated, incompetent, and irresponsible the management in this industry has become. By the way, I'm not a resentful oil veteran. I'm a 31 year old (and now former COP share holder) working outside of the oil industry.

We should ask ourselves: WHY ARE THEY LEAVING SO QUICKLY

New hires typically get an SGL bump at one year across the board. After that it's up in the air. I don't agree with it considering the environment, but they always tend to cater to new hires a bit in order to keep recruiting pipelines open. It's the same reason they honor job offers even as layoffs are occurring.

I'm one of those "shitty college kids" and as far as Corporate Staffs is concerned, no one got raises. I can't speak to the business and what their new hires received, if anything, but our new hires didn't receive their raises, nor did anyone else in our part of the organization. And as far as the new hires being "shitty college kids," you should check your "grammer" and "speling" whilst you stand in your glass house before you speak badly of the college-educated employees we hire.

Service anniversary in June only? I reached my one year of service in January and no raise over here.

Are you saying even during the wage freeze of 2015 AND 2016, the new hires with one year of service received a raise??
