I hear that H1bs are not inexpensive but rather they earn more than the citizens. Is it true?
There is some clause in H1B application filing that the wage given to the engineer has to be more than the prevailing wage for the job. That means if companies are still hiring them, it is because of shortage of skills at a given time and not to save cost.
OP, you are absolutely right. I have been on H1B visa myself for a few years and have worked in 4 different companies in H1B. Everywhere, my salary was slightly more than my peers - just a 1k-2k difference per year. The reason is the labor department has a guideline where a company has to meet the prevailing wage set for a certain skillset and companies when filing for the H1B applications try to even better the prevailing wage to ensure compliance.

No it is not true. First, the flood of H1B reduces the overall wage levels. Second employers lie about the level of the job. Third they lie about the qualifications of the candidates. So Americans are effectively shut out, or are forced to work for about half what the job would naturally pay. But it looks like it meets the letter of the law.

Not true H1b are paid fairly by bug MNC companies like Q,Apple,google. Rest all sucks the blood by paying just minimum bar of 55k per year.

Definitely NOT true. At a big company like the Q, they are paid the same, as that is the US law. In some places, their wages are artificially lowered (especially for he contracting firms like Infosys)
