Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

When bullies become bosses business suffers

The cost to business is at least 10% in productivity, according to Dr. Phillip Zombardo (professor emeritus, Stanford University). Sick call offs and resignations increase under a bully's leadership according to Dr Z. Dr Z documented the cruelty ordinarily good people are capable of when they're given absolute authority. Dr Z's book, The Lucifer Effect was recently made into a feature film and he was hyping it on a radio show, just today Jeff was given absolute authority by Follett management. Jeff increased resignations and decreased productivity.

125382 perhaps you mean Phil Zimbardo. You are probably quoting from his textbook widely read by Psych 101 students. The only power bullies have over you is the power you give them. Bullies are by their nature very insecure but often mask that insecurity with real skill and ability; a paradox of sorts. Keep your cool at all times, avoid confontation on their turf and they will eventually undo themselves. Been there done that and the ding dong was eventually sent to a real shithole post.

LOL at being big. I am also a rather large man :-). I powerlift competively. I had my boss physically get in my face and throw a shadow punch in my direction. I had to loudly explain to him that I would knock him the f*** out if he ever even thinks about doing that again. He avoided me for the rest of the year and retired. The guy literally would run the other direction. There were witnesses, I went to HR and we had that bullshit STEPS meeting. He said he was in the wrong. What did happen was I was questioned. BY THE HR MANGER. "You are huge, Do you really think someone can physically hurt you?" Yes this is Chevron Yes this is exactly what was said to me!

The Chevron Way is the Chicago Way. Bullies are promoted at Chevron. They were at Enron as well. It doesn't turn out well.

I am a rather large man. I was an offensive guard for a Major Div I program. 6'5" 325 pounds. I never thought in my wildest dreams that being big would come in handy at a fortune 3 company. Chevron being nerd central, means I am not threatened or bullied. I shit bigger than the size of most supervisors. But to even bring this up is totally bizarre. I truly thought I was going crazy and seeing stuff that was not there, yelling, screaming grabbing employees by the arm, physical threats. But there is no doubt the Chevron Way truly is about being a bully and a DICK! IF YOU PHYSCHICALLY THREATEN ANYBODY IN ANY OTHER COMPANY YOU ARE IMMEDIATELY FIRED. At Chevron you get promoted?
