Thread regarding Sears layoffs

back for min wage and double the work

They just laid off a total of 20 this year at my store plus 5 more today. They laid me off in April just to bring me back for min wage and double the work. It's like working in hell there cause they won't turn the air conditioners anymore claiming cooperate controls the temp...but I'm sure they are enjoying the air in there offices. When they lay u off they didn't even have to the balls to inform u that it's gonna happen. You show up one day and before u clock in they r walking u out the door with a smile

I was a full-time sears associate with 34 years when my job was "eliminated" in October 2014 and told that I could apply for part-time as a new hire, at minimum wage with no benefits. Wht happened to experience and seniority? I hate the thought of ever going back to work for such a sorry company. I won't even go back inside the building!

They "let go" (shit on) 3 leads at our store last week. Regional in today. Will probably screw over the remaining few after they worked their butts off getting ready for company.

Was told they could apply for another position but it would be part time. Way to treat loyal employees Eddie.

yep they terminated 4 leads at my location ,one has been there almost 30 years ! Hiring all new young people, training cashiers on weekends (boy does that piss the customers off) everyone is getting written up for every little infraction. Cashiers better sell those smart plans, credit cards and achieve 75% on their shop your way transactions weekly or face consequences up to and including termination. They can't seem to hire people that get the signage or prices right and then bitch because there are too many price overrides.

Just a quick question. In our store they have cut hours in half for most people, even part timers. The reason they give is budget cuts. O.K. I get that but then they go and hire 10 people to work those hours. Why not just let the people with experience work those hours instead of bringing someone new in and having to train them. All the people in my store except the full timers make minimum wage. We even had to sign a form to say that when minimum wage increased those who made more than minimum would not get an increase to keep them at the higher salary level. So now we have a store of new people and people who have been there for years all making the same wage. Not good for employee moral.

Several months ago i heard they where going to eliminate full time leads, but thought no friggin way. On Monday, I heard from a fellow employee he was laid off along with 2 others in our Kmart. I guess the rumor mill was truthful this time. It will be interesting considering they cut hours due to budget constraints, then complain things are not being done. You can not have it both ways, but that is something corporate does not understand. It will be interesting at work tomorrow.

So I hear that Sears and Kmart are eliminating most full time positions. Is this true? What about the full time people, do they lose their jobs?

just wanted to reply to all those who are being laid off or who have already been laid off. Our store moved a few full timers to lead positions in September 2014 and then right after Christmas eliminated their jobs. They were told they could re-apply at minumum wage. One person had been there for over 15 years and another had been there for over 10. I would love to hear from any labor lawyers how this is legal. Just seems like a way to move people out who are making too much money. The reason I say this is that there were part time people in those departments who applied for the job and did not get it, but the full time people who were in different departments got the job and then were let go. Just make you wonder.

In our store they already terminated 7 leads. Work vide was sad and horrible as others lead try to work waiting for their names to be called as if they where targets.

Sad part is been part of the company for so many years to be layed off and be asked to return part time in minimum wage.
