Question about ROM

If my position is open and I have to apply for 4 positions during my assigned ROM, would that mean I have to compete and defend my current position against potential candidates? Could I just leave my current position out the selected pool?

You do have to wonder how get away with it though. In my department's ROM, you can post up one level or your same level but not down. If your job is reclassified at a lower level and posted, you're screwed out off it, even if you're willing to take less money. This normally adversely affects more older employees. And it's the same damn job, changing one word in the title doesn't constitute a new position.

When the ROM begins, everyone is considered "at risk of termination". Staying in "your" job is not an option.n the purpose of ROM is to eliminate all positions and replace with new positions. This greatly minimizes risk of litigation because when a company eliminates the position it is nearly impossible for an employer to lose a job loss discrimination-based lawsuit. Business optimization is an "added value" offered by consultants like BCG. The main function of BCG is to provide a 3rd party recommended means of accomplishing a workforce reduction with minimum negative legal exposure to discrimination claims or other prevailing employment laws.
