Thread regarding Follett layoffs

I wonder what benefits they will cut next to keep within 'industry standards' to cover up their complete lack of understanding how

This business is run. People need to be relieved of their jobs for complete lack of business sense. It's amazing how much money is lost due to the Kmart, Sears and Office Max people.

How about the millions of dollars spent on buying the wrong editions of books that are packed in the ADC. How about the thousands and tens of thousands of dollars follett loses in the millies spam that everyone sweeps under the rug. Somehow we buy books from ourselves or we sell books to other companies and buy them back at 20 or more times the price we sold them for. Sounds backwards to me. How about the millions we lose when we purge out good inventory vs by not understanding a new title doesnt have sales the last 2 years. I have many many more examples of the bleeding.

Or the $25,000.00 MLS spent remodeling her RG office knowing in a year she would be moving to the newly remodeled Westchester site. But hey, it's only the family's money that could be used to pay for an associate that earned the company money. Yes, it's all for the best1

with the battle for minimum wage we're very likely to see a major spike in expectations for higher temp salaries as well. Staffing has become a problem already as such. That thousand dollars spent on a phone could be better utilized meeting this coming challenge.

Here's an example for you - $1,000 for a phone in a conference room.

"Jeez, guys. Lots of cliches are being thrown around on this board all the time. Your starting to sound like a broken record. Complaint after complaint. Words and phrases without substance. Getting tired of all this "Me too!" crap. Post something meaningful or post nothing at all." Please read this quote. It is posted below, too. It does not add ot the conversation. The conversation was about the foolishness of Follett's spending. This comment doesn't defend the practices, doesn't justify the practice it doesn't add anything at all. The writer forgot we all work(ed) at Follett. We've had enough useless criticism to last us a life time. What was the point of that? In closing, the executive team does seem to enjoy spending like drunken sailors. They can't afford to do so unless they increase revenue. The way they increase revenue, these past 3 years, is to take benefits and salaries from people who are actually working with customers or in positions of front line support at HO. I don't think they can cut anything more, considering the impact of the 13th amendment and all.

sadly the only thing they really throw money at is keeping themselves nice and drunk while the rest of us drown having been thrown overboard.

Hey Ned, a week after Follett cut lose hundreds of long time employees so they could "better serve the customer", Follett execs flew out to Stanford and threw themselves a huge party. There was wine and beer and the lunch was catered, just outside the stadium before the traditional rivalry game against Cal. There was free admission to the game and goodie bags, too. I don't think working for Neebo was fun post BK and reorg, but this place turned into a shit hole almost overnight. The scope of the betrayal was stunning.

Lifetime jobs with ever increasing pay, for the family, would be a good place to cut. Those bastards turned their back on loyal employees with more than 20 years of service, they deserve a dose of "tough economy", too.

A month in with Follett and I can already tell this company throws money around like a drunken sailor. In a way, it's refreshing, but much of it is exorbitant waste.

The cuts will be coming following fall rush and the numbers are in. Lots of costs associated with Neebo acq so they will be sharpening the knife.
