Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Hi from Exxon

My God is Chevron this broken. Take a look at Exxon's posts. Most are 9 moths old. Exxon is a rather draconian company. Saying that, I am floored by the over riding themes on this board. Did you consider leaving before the down turn? I would think the Psyche would be its got to get better and to stay? Exxon will crucify incompetent ass kissers. Results results results. Now that creates its own problems.

We do take crap hiring on campus. I'm a recruiter and have to fight with other recruiters when there is a bad candidate. It's like we never met a candidate we didn't like. I wish I wasn't serious.

Exxon hires the top 2% of graduates from the top engineering schools. CVX takes the low grade point average that XOM won't hire. XOM is a AAA rated bond, the federal government is AA.

AMBU is the Appalachian-Michigan Business Unit, aka; the Marcellus Shale play, with its main office in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Chevron bought these assets from Atlas a couple of years ago when natural gas seemed to be the holy grail. We made our move on these purchase after Exxon bought XTO. If hind sight is 20/20, we should have stayed away.

Exxon back here. Make no mistake about it, Exxon has the old Jack Welch GE model churn and burn the bottom 10%. Get results or be gone. This model will go away I believe as it creates more harm than good. Also from reading this board AMBU is the Marcellus Business correct? Exxon bought (and in I think paid way to much) XTO for 40 billion (10 of this was debt). XTO has a big presence(acres) in the Marcellus and Utica shale. I know Chevron bought a local independent (can't remember the name) about the same time. My family are good old dago's and grew up in a town just north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Aliquippa. Known for football players and drugs today. So I know the mentality and the region. Chevron put a rather large staff there correct? Exxon only has a handful of people at XTO. I know this because I asked about going back to the area and in the Shale plays in general. We just consolidated the Marcellus shale play offices to an industrial park a few miles north of Pittsburgh. Exxon calls XTO a subsidiary and it is as there are very few Exxon people in XTO and it's mainly for capital investment and planning, not operations. This shale work is as much of an art as it is a science. But it's the future, as these wells are huge. The reserves of gas and liquids are quite frankly unbelievable but have been proven, to my contrary belief. I have less than 10 years to go and am an offshore guy and wanted a new adventure. So here is a taste of the blunt Exxon style. "This shale work is to fast and furious for long term Major oil guy like you. So no, you can't go. The Exxon style is blunt and to the point. Again good luck to you all as we are in a major downturn. I am positioning myself to not be expendable. Can anyone say Papua New Guinea? Hell Hole and no volunteers but security. If you see a fat Italian looking guy on a flight to New Guinea say hi!

Exxon also has forced ranking distribution - "rank and yank". Approx 10 percent guaranteed bad performers.

Exxon,

You're seeing a disproportionate amount of ex-AMBU mental illness on this board. These are the same crazies that resulted in Chevron having to hire extra security during the last reorg. Typical east-coast, union thug mentally is what you are seeing on this board. It's easy to spot who they are, just look for the posts that your 6th grader would roll their eyes at.

Gorgon is a screw up of epic proportions but Exxon is not without fault either. They have had a number of secondees on the project team, some in leadership roles, for awhile.

This is Exxon back. I will say this about hiring family or trying to persuade people to hire family. You will be escorted out the door. I looked at your financials and they are worrisome. I think debt is an understatement. Exxon is putting a very big push on your management for the non performance of Gorgon. The union is going to have a strike vote. I think we may die before Chevron finishes it? Not sure how Chevron let the debt to equity get so far out of whack. Good luck people as we are all brothers and sisters of the oil patch. We are also feeling the pain but Chevron seems like a circus.

Nepatism and flunky ass kissers barely scratches the surface. There is so much time and money wasted on investing in appeasing special interest groups no wonder the company is faltering. Diversity is essential but Chevron has taken it to a level of worship. Why can't we simply respect each other and do our jobs? No we have to spend millions of dollars and countless hours being indoctrinated to embrace everyone else's heritage and lifestyle while important business is being pushed to the side. Are we an energy company or a damn group counseling service?

Exxon is double the size of Chevron and the stock remains solid. That is a well managed company without nepotism and flunky ass kissers.
