Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Can someone answer?

Why hasn't Chevron asked for a Voluntary Reduction in Force( VRiF) instead of random selection of those who they deem non-essential? Maybe they cant afford it-how sad.

I think it's a mistake. They should offer it to everyone since you have a lot of older folks who may want to retire and take advantage of the severance pay. And it could reduce the number of layoff necessary. That's how Exxon always did it. offer it to everyone. Give them 30 days to make a decision and get moving with the reorg.

They have. You can ask to be "left standing" and you'll receive severance (max 1 year). Some folks have enough "points" to retire so this an incentive for some of those high $ folks who've been here 30+ years to leave.

The request to to be left standing has to be initiated by the employee. That way Chevron can't be accused of age discrimination. If you've been here at 30+ years, you've got to at least be a 24-25 PSG making at least $180k/yr or more. Trimming those folks from the payroll is a quick way to save a ton of cash.

If had enough points to retire, I would gladly take this opportunity.

Because you will end up with losers who can't find job anywhere else staying with the company.

Because then the best people who can easily and quickly get other jobs with competitors will take the voluntary package.
