Thread regarding Baker Hughes Inc. layoffs

Shame on you BHI

I sacrificed most of my waking hours to help build this company. I missed my kids football and baseball games, working long hours away from home. Yes the money was good, but I honestly believe I put in a hell of a lot more than I ever took out. I realize when times are tough cits have to be made, but why pick on the people who have devoted their whole lives to building this company? And the ultimate insult? Being replaced by a gooey duck.

Why do you think BHI owes you anything? You agreed to work for a salary and benefits. You can leave the company at anytime. You got paid for your work every 2 weeks. Its your own fault if you feel like you have given more than baker has given you.

Well I am sorry you are gone regardless of how or why. Freeliving is just a jerk.

Most guys I work with think they put in far more than they take out. The truth is they are deluded. It's fighting the self-importance some people have of themselves.

Job insecurity is the new normal. It's one-way honor system in which workers are beholden to employers, but employers are not. The one-way honor system is when individual workers profess having an intense work ethic that also involves loyalty or identifying with the employers. On the other hand, for the last 30 years or so, employers have been pulling away from making any similar pledge. And there's no blame for employers — even people who had been laid off said it's not the company's job to worry about workers, they have to be lean and mean in a tough economy. Americans appear to have entirely capitulated to the model of the high-performance company that doesn't owe anything to workers. It is reshaping our family lives for the worse.
