Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

BCG asked me to be confidential about structuring furloughs for my team

So I am being very confidential and posting it here....shhhhhhhh don't tell anybody. Now only at Chevron does a consultant ask how do you furlough your group not a company manager. Should we do 14 on and 14 off (with no pay). 28 and 28 of 3 month on and a month off. Well dingleberry the last one is not the same????? When I pointed that out to Abhayananda he said he would have to check his figures....WTF, I am in a bad acid trip! Soooooooo furloughs here we come! If you see Abhayananda say hi for me.

Christ people. Cutting labor does not solve our problems because we have an astronomical cash flow problem.

Furlough is an unusual step but not unheard of. I have a friend, not at Chevron, whos company is forcing every employee to take one extra day off, without pay, each month. Supposed to be saving millions per month. I'd do it - no question, to save jobs. Ultimately we have to rein in costs and ride out the low oil prices. Good luck

The function has to be a staff position. Not a direct operations position. I was told more ROM's and maybe a furlough yesterday by my manager, I googled layoff and this b9oard came up. So yes it is being mentioned.

That "you can't cut ops" line is why we're in the mess we're in. You can't reign in spending of $$ we don't have by cutting the 1-2% of your payroll that is corp and IT. We need start taking a chain saw to those precious "ops groups" as I know they have to have some 3's and some 2-'s in there.

Wow, Anon130431 Congrats!!! Tons of cash for working 10 hours a week reviewing purchase orders. I'm going to have to sharpen my abilities to top that. Thanks for your tips. See people, less work hours while still doing a good job and not pissing off the boss will get you ahead in Chevron.

Anonymous130376 you have to be crazy to leave. They would need to knock you over the head and drag you out. But wait I am even more underutilized. I worked for BP. Received several awards for work execution. I put in crazy hours and energy. My projects were Under budget, on time and incident free. Big ol projects. Undergrad in engineering from MIT and MBA from The Kellogg School when I was working in Chi Town for BP (Go Wildcats!). I get paid a ton of cash to work 10 hours a week reviewing PO's. I don't get it. I get 1 rankings. I think it's because I go to the church of the two boss's. Being serious here! My son one son is a football standout at an SEC school. My youngest son it a top recruit coming into this year. They talk football to me and ask about my kids and if they can get an autograph shirt or jersey??? Oh sure you can lol. Ah your doing a great job. Just keep it up is my PMP review. My brother works for Exxon and that guy is working like a slave. I was over his house last Friday and he looked like he just got out of the fields man. Sweaty, dark circles under his eyes. I took a 2 hour nap from 12-2 and was refreshed. My brother thinks I am being funny and jerking him around. NOPE. I work no more than 10 hours a week. I was called in two weeks ago and told I will not be going anywhere in this ROM. Ok back to sleep!

I'm about the same as Anon139365, I put in about 18-20 hours per week of real work. The other hours are stretch breaks, social time with other friends (on another floor), bathroom time, 1-hour lunch away from the office, and surfing the internet. I am very well liked by my boss and other supervisors. I never received worse than a 2 ranking in my PMPs. What a job.

LOL I am so freaking under utilized! I work 20 hours a week. I have asked for more work for a year and my boss has no clue what we do and says work/life balance is important! How many companies do people beg for more work? Chevron is so so broke!

More likely will be a furlough of so many hours per week. So you'll work 7 instead of 9 hours, or at least that's what you'll be paid for...still need to get the work done so you'll end up working just as much if not more since some people will be able to escape.

I can only see this being true for corporate functions. Like the previous poster said. You can't cut ops

I get forced breaks all the time now but not 50% of the year. Micropauses, work pace breaks and stretch breaks.

As for all the furlough talks......... Just because you all have received letter and are going to be released stop starting shit to get people in panic mode. Anyone tied to contracts or operations knows you can not furlough as its a 24/7/365 job, as for the rest of you HR, IT, supply chain people. Well I guess we could do without you for 50% of the year.

No I am afraid it's not B.S. and it will be 1/3 of the year that will be proposed. Don't like it then leave. That is going to be the message. If the price stays stagnant Chevron has no other choice my friend. And you will see the majority of people stay at least for the short run. If we see a rise in oil prices this is all just a pipe dream. If it stays at 50 this is 100% true and not BS. Look at chevron's cash flow this last quarter. You can see what it will be this quarter.....You will be looking a 10 billion plus loss. If they sale an asset it will help but who is buying and it will be at a drastic discount as everyone know Chevron is in a drastic state. Watch next month u will start to hear this....it will be leaked.

Sounds like BS. Any furlough where you are not paid for 50% of your salary, no matter if it's 7&7, 14&14, or whatever, will not work. Employees need their complete pay else they will find another job. What would a furlough do other than delay salary, your future, and worse yet... delay you from taking your pension and moving on. That's why this post is pure BS.

Pretty embarrassing for Chevron and whoever can leave will once the industry adjusts to lower oil prices or oil prices recover. Better to just lay off more people and not furlough your best employees.

Do not mispronounce this guys name he gets his panties in a bunch. He goes by Abby. A pretty darn aggressive furlough plan is being drawn as I type this. It will go in affect after the ROM if oil prices stay steady at 50-55. Chevron does not have cash flow and salaries are easy pickings. I am not sure how to look at this....if they do furlough I do see another ROM but very limited in scope. Chevron is in a pickle here because this is not a short term furlough for 6-12 months. This looks much larger in scope from the numbers that were reviewed with me. 24 months at a minimum?
