There are many incompetent and opportunistic managers that need to be canned in this process. Unfortunately that will not happen. If you want a list of employees who are being canned, contact the CHK gossip master. And we all know who he is.

Managers get to say who they think needs cut but do we get to comment on whether our manager should be cut?!! NOPE!

My boss told a girl that got laid off that he didn't know who was going to be cut and then he was cut the next round.

Things will be far worse this time around. Oil was $108/bbl during last layoff, most of those affected had a new job in a matter of weeks if not days. Won't be the case this time, don't treat your severance package like a bonus.

If you actually think Doug makes the call on who stays or goes you're fooling yourself. They'll pay a consulting group to come up with some real pretty diagrams and those that land in the "excess" group for any variety of reasons will be let go. In 2013 managers didn't even find out about cuts within their groups until the Men In Black came rolling in.

He did not sound like whining just that there are those who do nothing and suck up a paycheck and those who work for their check. Those who work for their check can't stand lazy people. If the lazy folks would move on, which they won't because they are lazy, their would be more attrition and less headcount reductions needed. Why is it that when someone expressed an opinion they are accused of whining. Live and let live.

I was far from whining, simply stating a fact.

I agree that Doug should take a pay cut.

I don't see how people can come to work and not do anything especially when they know their job could be on the line. I was raised to work hard. I would be okay with them leaving the department, we don't need them. We have more than enough people to do the work we have.

Whine all you want. This is working in oil and gas. Don't have the appetite for it. Go for a job at Walmart or Home Depot. Oil is and always will be high risk - high reward.....but it will be cyclical The whiny folks obviously didn't live through the last few down cycles. Otherwise you'd know this is just how it goes despite whether you're an AKM or Lawler fan. It will eventually turnaround and come back but in the mean time every oil and gas company will shed people. The longer this lasts the more people will go. Quit whining and and do something for yourself - work hard and stay - or just get out!

It doesn't matter if everyone works hard and never gets caught up and that you need them all. In 2013 the people in the layoff were busy as well, some on call 24/7, working hard daily with great reviews and bonuses. None of those things factored into Doug's decisions then and they won't again because at the end of the day it's about a dollar amount that must be cut. Hopefully if there is a layoff again those let go will be treated with dignity and not overseen by a bunch of goons pretending to look like secret service agents. Hopefully people with years of service will get a better severance than someone who wandered onto campus just a few months before. If indeed the CEO would take a pay cut and save some jobs for even one year that would be something! A little pay it forward could go a long way.

There are several people in my group who do nothing but chat at all. There is plenty of work to do but why do it? There are some (like me) who will do it. You would think with the way things are people would be working hard or at least look like you are.

It's hard to say or think about. I fear a lot of people will lose their job. My office the people work hard and never seem to get caught up. Can't imagine losing anyone. The work would pile up or fall through the cracks.
