Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Thankful to be a Chevron Employee

I am amazed at the number of people that complain about working for Chevron. Yes- you need to leave if you are unhappy. I have been blessed to work for many years with such a fine company. Never worked for a boss that I did not like or respect. My work has always been challenging and rewarding. If this is taken away tomorrow I will still be grateful for all the wonderful years and be proud to know that I have worked for one of the best companies in this industry.

For those that get let go of the CVX machine...... do not fear there is life outside of this corp.

Having worked for CVX after the TX take-over, and then a few smaller oil co's I can say if you are let go don't look back.

It may be the best thing that happens to you.

GL to you all.

I read, with interest, posts from individuals who LOVE working for Chevron.

I suggest that such people must be suffering from The Stockholm Syndrome.

Look that up, please, in yer Funk & Wagnalls!

I have to agree with the OP. I worked at several large firms before CVX. Even at its worse, CVX is 10 times better than anyplace else.

For those that have only worked at CVX their whole career you may not have this perspective.

Anonymous131334 I have had 5 bosses in 3 years? One had early onset Alzheimer's. They were going to move the boss to a PR role for the discipline (attend professional meetings etc.). But she quit just as the decision was made. So I literally had a senile boss they were going to keep?

I have the same impression with Chevron as the OP. I'm approaching my 15th year with the company supporting upstream operations. I have always been treated fairly, the work has been challenging, I have progressed according to my career development plan, and all of my supervisors have embraced the Chevron Way. Not that it matters but to address an earlier question posed to the OP, I'm PSG 23 and this is my first ROM. In 14 years of reviews I've received mostly 1s and 2+ and no 2- or 3s. I have a young family and feel this ROM process has been transparent, fair, and generous. I suppose I could work for a company that calls me into the office out of the blue and lays me off without 28.5 weeks of compensation and 6 weeks of paid redeployment. I don't understand all of the angst you all have.

That should read a core function not record function. Sorry

I've had four bosses in six years. If that's not a sign of a company that has no idea how to manage record function then I don't know what is. These were not resignations or reassignments but rather planned moves viewed as beneficial to the corporation and employees working in the department. This despite the fact that without consistent leadership nothing gets done and every manager does nothing in fear of screwing up their exit ticket to something bigger and better. This place is screwed.

Anonymous 131041, are you the boss's daughter or mistress? There is not much in your post that would lead anybody think you actually work for Chevron. Did someone put you up to this?

Are you upstream or downstream? How long have you worked at Chevron?

If your manager is prone to be so vocal in front of employees, try to always have your audio recorder turned on your mobile phone when in the company of this racist. If HR doesn't do anything about it, send a copy of the recording to the EEOC and to John Watson's office. If that doesn't work, then make copies on dozens of CD disks and place them throughout the office on random desks.

Interesting --- I had one of these great managers make sexual harassment comments and age discrimination comments to me and her entire management team, I reported to HR and sine it was a pay grade 26 and 27 the brushed it under the table. Chevron does not walk the talk as the claim. If a manager tells you she has issues with White men, how are you to take that. Again HR brushed under the covers. ITC HR is the worse.

Could you give us more details about your rewarding career at Chevron? How many years have you worked at Chevron? Did you ever work anywhere else? What PSG level are you? How have you scored on PMPs, any 3s or 2- rankings? How many ROMs have you survived? Are you related to a Chevron manager? What is your area of expertise and level of education? Are you in a service area or a core business unit?

Great for you, Anon131041. A lot of us enjoy and are greatful for being employed by Chevron too. Most of the complaints you read here in this forum are expressions of frustration. I wish you well and hope that if you are let go tomorrow, you don't eat your words.
