Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

"HR Business Partner"

After the 2014 ROM, we received an email informing us who our ITC "HR Business Partner" was. When the dates of the current ROM came out I sent a meeting request to mine to discuss logistics regarding possible retirement. The meeting invitation was rejected (checked her calendar to ensure the time was open) with a response saying "Sorry I was unable to meet with you, send any questions you have via email". Moral of the story - don't count on HR for help with anything.

I tried to quit Chevron and it took them a month after I started my new job to stop paying me and finally process my termination. Pretty sure the HRBP was worried she would get in trouble because my termination date ended up being a month after I actually stopped working. If I wasn't actively trying to get Chevron to terminate me I'm sure I'd still be getting a paycheck and would probably have received a promotion in the ROM.

Ahhhh someone nailed it! This place is so broke you can't retire. It's a Hamster wheel. I have been attempting this for months. HR should be called Human Restrictions. Wrong Paper work, right paper work not filed. Redo paper work. One page missing. Time expires start process over. Turn in paperwork to HR BP. She sits on and has checked out because of fear of getting fired I believe. Go to her boss and she tells me that retirements are on hold lol. No they are not, she also does not want to do this until after she knows if she has a job. I recorded these conversations for my wife as she thinks I don't want to retire. it took 30 seconds of listening and Gods honest truth this was the wifes response. "You did move the 401k out of Chevron stock, correct?"

Don't be naive, HR works for Chevron, not for you. Just do your best and take what comes without tears, the company doesn't need any more whiners.

the email route is the way to go, it's really best to have everything in writing anyway. They will not go off script and usually are of little to no help. My questions were answered via email long after I had found answers going another route. If you have a retirement date in mind you can go ahead and request the Retirement Commencement online, you will need an end date. Doing this does not mean you must retire, but you will receive some paperwork and a retirement advisor assigned to you. If you do not return your "papers" the whole request expires but you will have some answers.

I retired last year.

Now I know why some people say it's easier to keep working than navigate the retirement process.

I can name plenty of people at Chevron who don't deserve a job starting with dear Mr. Watson himself. Yeah they are crappy HR business partners and there are equally shitty people in the business too.

One out of five (20%) of HR to be cut will be justice served. I could quickly name a few HR Business Partners whose name should top the lists. I prefer to sit back and keep score, though. I have a keen knack for being right on these things.

HR is also slammed with planning for the ROM which it's my understanding they are enjoying doing no more than anybody else is expecting it. They are also having their own ROMs and 20% of them will be losing their jobs. It's looking like a Catch-22 for most of them

I think HR is trying to adhere to a script in this process. They know that private meetings with employees dealing with layoffs, severances and retirement plans could be recorded or the conversation most likely could go "off script". It may also be your HR Business Partner is a useless person with no regard to being "Human", a good "Resource" or even being a "Partner".
