Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Does anyone have any idea what is going to happen at Asia South BU?

I have real concerns about having a huge amount of layoffs within a week or so. Does anyone have any info or update at the ASBU?

Yes, but unlike the rest of the world, since you work in Asia you get a free dog and a set of disposable chopsticks to feed your family as part of your severance package.

Get a clue. ASBU like every other upstream BU is going to see big staffing cuts. Have you been living in a vacuum?

Probably no longer a Business Unit. I bet that is the next step, consolidate BU's. Idea was to get closer to the work. Now, no work. Thailand and Bangladesh will go to?? China to?? They have 2 layers of management there. Asbu is almost all expats.

Now that everybody has the vomit spewed out, back to my original question to the OP. What has been communicated that makes you feel this way?

The root cause of the fiasco that is Chevron is the piss poor management. The management has created this Chevron Way, the right way culture, of behavior based (be nice, avoid confrontation or present disagreement the "right way") bullshit. Build a clique of friends John's answer: "No, Darling we will never leave California. Remember our history - Standard Oil of CA.... yadda, yadda, yadda". Yea, yea, there are oil wells in Bakersf-ingfield and they will stay there. Look around the San Ramon campus and you see more truth than all that nice gibberish. You Chevroids really love your kool-aid. Looking up facts, acting on them and getting results... well. well, that's a nudder story.

These new 2016 cuts? Just for Upstream and service companies, right? Downstream shouldn't be doing these, right?

" Chevron is in a cashflow crisis of epic proportions" Frankly, if the oil pices continue the present trend, they may have to accelerate the RAEs and ROMs even more. May be at the end of third quarter?

Folks, Chevron is in a cashflow crisis of epic proportions. It is not a small problem that can be cured in a year with everbody pitching in and working harder. We are in a much bigger hole. Partly due to oil price but more due to MCPs that are billions in the whole and worse yet years behind schedule. The overruns cripple our long-term financial health but the delays absolutely kill our short- & mid-term cash flow. Upstream is bleeding a river of red. ALL Chevron entities will experience deep cuts before this is over a few years down the road. What you have seen so far is just the beginning. Upstream will be drilling far fewer development wells, hardly any exploration wells, and sanctioning very few new projects. In light of that fact we will not need a large percentage of our current staff. We will continue like this until our fields begin to ebb and production starts diminishing at rates too big to hide by opening the spigots here and there. As for the increase in production that CEO predicts, it will not happen. It simply isnt possible with the trend in capex reductions. The next round of cuts across the board will be much deeper than the first round of ROMs and RAEs. It is already being planned and execution will coincide with March disclosures of 2015 PMP ratinds, salary adjustments and CIP. Freshly minted 2- and 3s will be RAE'd and then staffing levels will be re-evaluated in 2016 Q1 if and when Gorgon comes on line. I dont enjoy being a storm crow but now you now. Begin to plan how you and your families will navigate these difficult times if you have not already.

"Project Alpha, Project Matrix, ROM, RAE. Chevron won't call a layoff a layoff. "

Very true. One of the most hypocritical organizations! Taken right out of Dilbert's book! LOL

I think everyone feels this way. Project Alpha, Project Matrix, ROM, RAE. Chevron won't call a layoff a layoff. This is done on purpose to deceive. We are not dumb and the deception creates more anxiety. If Chevron would just level and be truthful this would be bad but not horrible. Again it's a symptom of the broken leadership. ASBU will wake up to an email saying project Pinocchio is being implemented and it will be vague and not understandable as how it truly affects the BU.
