Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Relocation???

I been working less then two years. I started in Sept. and was ranked to new. My Boss left in Dec. and I did not get another until Oct. This year would have been my first PMP. I don't understand how I could be in scope other than I am a woman??? I was also relocated here and have a 2 year contract. I believe they should have to move me back. Does anybody have anything similar?

I was relocated to Houston as a new employee less than 2 years ago. I've had 7 managers in under 2 years - so basically I've been doing both jobs for a while - every time a new manager came on board I would have to get them up to speed again on the current environment. When someone finally got around to my PMP last year, I was a 2. Typical for a newbie, I was told....hell, I was so busy with my job that PMP was the last thing on my mind. Then suddenly I am 'in scope' for RAE because my new manager says I'm 'trending' toward a 2-. In one conversation. The day prior to the RAE notice coming out. I can't believe the circus that goes on behind the curtain at Chevron. I'm relieved to be leaving and shocked it has taken the company this long to tank. Oh - and I checked with HR - they will not move me back. Had I quit or been fired, I would have had to pay them back for my relocation - and you can bet they would have held me to that.

I can't stomach women that say "I'm perfect; I do my job like a rock star. I am a mother, a wife, and a lover ...and blah, blah, blah and if you're not like me then you're just whinny and unprofessional." Not all teams or supervisors are supportive of working parents. Some look down on dads for taking paternity leave. Doing so makes men look like they are less invested in their job upon having a child. Also it looks like we prefer to do "women's" work for taking time to bond. Chevron isn't a family friendly place to work in general. The CVX population is not representative of the population at large. Many folks at chevron are anti-kid. I've heard things like "Thank god I don't have any of those things." I wasn't in the RAE but my wife was. She asked to do part time after our daughter was born and when she was ranked, her supervisor said her part time schedule didn't allow her to do significant work or be on major projects. Based on her projects he couldn't justify giving her a high ranking. But he's the one that assigned her those projects. She didn't get let go, but we now think twice about asking for adjustment for work-life balance.

Relocated from Ambu to Texas. I didn't get a 2-, rather this year's PMP I was told was trending to a 2-. Really? New supervisor didn't like me. He asked me wouldn't I rather be a stay at home mom. Isn't that what every little girl dream job is? I had to go to my son's school a lot during work the first two months he started because he was not adjusting well. He made that comment after I had to go twice to my son's school in the same week. It's my word against his. I don't have a case. I just can't believe he said that.

I was laid off from AMBU back in January. I had less than 2 years experience and they did not offer to move me from Pittsburgh back to Texas. HTH :/

"I'm not a poster kind of person, so back off!! I was hired on as a 15 yr employee and have incredible work ethics and proven qualifications. I have such a good repport with my Chevron Family, they are crying!!" -- This takes the cake. You're not a poster kind of person??? I can't quite get what a poster person is -- you mean like "poster child?" You were "hired on as a 15 year employee" -- what the hell is that supposed to mean?? You had 15 years work experience before being hired at Chevron? So what??? And I'm sure your Chevron family is crying but it's probably tears of joy that your leaving and taking your REPPORT with you! There's a seat for you in the remedial grammar and spelling class.

Why do you have a 2 year contract? Are you a contractor? Also, has all of your experience been with Chevron?

I was hired on as a 15 yr employee and have incredible work ethics and proven qualifications. I have such a good repport with my Chevron Family, they are crying!!

So all you ugly haters, KMA

Sorry if there's any grammar mistakes!!

A friend of mine who was a 10 year Chevron employee got layed off in AMBU and they reneged on that offer. It was included in all paper work and emails and when it came time to move they said the BU changed it's mind. He called employee relations and they said "sorry can't help you". He had great PMP rating and was an overall great employee. So watch out....and ask employee relations about AMBU. I forget the guys name he talked to at employee relations.....I will ask and post.

I'm a woman who had children while working at Chevron. Got pregnant my first year of employment in fact. The OP has proven herself to be whiny and unprofessional and practically illiterate through her posts here, but we're supposed to believe there's no reason for her being fired except her gender and family status? Oh please. Go away, you won't get much sympathy here.

@"Guess I'm paying, again, for someone else complete lack of English grammar. But then again, this is Chevron - always someone else to blame." But then again this is Chevron, full of assholes like you that are mean and ugly.

Just because you know women that have kids doesn't mean that all moms are treated the same or that all parents parent the same. Parenting style vary and gender discrimination against working parents is a real problem at many big corporations. To dismiss someone for "playing the gender card" is disgusting and is why discrimination against parents still goes on. People without kids think it all the same thing and have no idea how it is to balance work with family, no idea that it's unique to each household.

'I was focused on something that only a woman could do'

Normal people say pregnant - you made it sound like your employment required you to be female.

Guess I'm paying, again, for someone else complete lack of English grammar.

But then again, this is Chevron - always someone else to blame.

You say " I don't understand how I could be in scope other than I am a woman???" Was there a reason for why you tie the two. I am not saying I don't believe you. I just want to know if you can tie the two like other people are able to.

I know a lot of women at Chevron who have had children - still there - sounds like this idiot is trying to play the gender card.

If you can't figure out that last post had a typo, then "wow." Some of you people lack character and sympathy. Thanks to you that do "The bottom line is... It's unfortunate for anyone who is getting laid that doesn't want to leave just yet."

And what can women do that men can't? Duh--get pregnant

I don't know anything technically and I am still being trained by the company. ................... But they are laying me off because of my gender not my lack of technical knowledge. This thread is freakin killing me

Also your phrase "I been working less then two years" would indicate that your gender is not the reason you're in scope for a layoff. It seems unlikely that you communicate professionally at work if you're unable to effectively complain on this board that you're being laid off because you're a woman. But go for it, sue the company if you think it will get you anywhere.

You are now in scope with this phrase, "I wasn't not focus like the other employees."

Please clarify wtf this means:

"I wasn't not focus like the other employees"

I was told by my supervisor that I wasn't not focus like the other employees; I was focused on something that only a woman could do. So you can't tell me that my ranking was not related to my gender. He said that to me in person and did not put it on my PMP; rather what he put on my PMP was lacking attention to detail.

Any employee laid off with 2 years of hire or having been relocated to their current place of work will be relocated back to where they came from, if the employee so wishes. It's a company policy. Ask your HRBP if you are notified that you are being laid off.

I'm "in scope" and was relocated almost two months ago. I'm also wondering the same thing. I really wish I hadn't moved away from family and friends just to be laid off.

They'll move you back and you aren't in scope because you are a woman. Ask your HRBP for your PMP ranking history.
