Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Todays layoff was an HR run exercise for anyone with a 2- or lower in the last three years

Today was for performance nothing about ROM, RAE etc. AMBU and CBU already went through a ROM. 25% whack. There will be a second round this fall for CBU and AMBU most likely closing the AMBU BU with an NOJV deal and cutting an additional 25% at CBU and planning an NOJV there for the Duvernay shale in Fox Creek. Every BU and in Houston will soon get new revised org charts that have a reduction in force. Most of the ROM will be announced in and around October. Around 25% is the average reduction some as high as 50% like LABU. You will know when it hits as you will be given org charts with a few sentence job description for each box. Your job may not be there if it is not you can apply for three jobs. If your job is there you can apply for your position and two other jobs. As of last week you had to apply for you own position if posted.....not saying you will get it. Todays layoff was an HR run exercise for anyone with a 2- or lower in the last three years. This had absolutely nothing to do with the ROM.

Atlas was a very profitable company. it's a shame that chevron destroyed an opportunity. They could never duplicate what atlas had because we had employees that were committed to the success of the project and not their career paths. After chevron ran off all the Atlas employees they couldn't get anything done. It took a year to drill wells while the competitors were drilling faster smarter and leaner and just as safe if not safer.

To the idiot posting on U of H MBAs: worthless effing degree; an MBA from U of H and a a buck will buy you a soda. Dont waste your money on a third tier college. Go to a real school and get a real degree.

Folks, all ratings are forced against a bell curve. Look up PASA. What your supervisor puts on your PMP is the result of that. However the supervisor make an initial rating and inputs it to a central database app and it gets reviewed in a PASA session with the usual 1-3 plus a 3x3 matrix. I have seen several forced up as well as down. Unfortunately, your performance will be compared against someone who is in your PG, but in a totally different department. You only have so many 1s and so many 3s based on that group's population.

It sounds totally objective, but if you are not very well known but the supervisors of all groups, and if your supervisor or manager is not really strong about going to bat for you, it can and will hurt you. So if you have a fairly new manager or supervisor......

Today's layoff was the the CNAEP RAE. Reread CNAEP ceo Jeff S's letter and the various BU VP followup letters that clearly explain the process. Those left standing in the next round of Alpha, Transform, Matrix and BU ROMs will be next to go. Third wave in feb-mar 2016 coinciding with PMP ranking annoucements & CIP.

actually the -2 or 3 depends on your BU. Some have forced rankings still.

2- and 3 rankings aren't forced so it's likely not 10%.

Any idea what percentage, in general, this cut was. I think ranking is based on bell curve. I would expect 10% to be in the 2- to 3 range. Though it may be more like 5. Any idea on this guys/gals?

It's a fact there were some let go who never had a 2-. They were added to the list without benefit of a ranking session which IMHO is unfair. They have a right to be PO'd.

Forget about getting an MBA after 50 years of age. It's not worth the 2 years it takes, plus the money you need to shell out. Move forward into any job you can get and continue looking for a better one while you are working. You'll be more happy and less stressed.

Re-read my post and it sounds a bit harsh. I didn't intend for it to be that way. What I was trying to point out is that the fairly generous severance is going to give you a nice cushion to explore other options which may result is you being happier that you may not have been able to consider otherwise. Immediate job searching isn't the only option and severance (along with unemployment, which you get even though you are receiving severance) will give you negotiating leverage with you search for a job immediately as well as other options like obtaining a new degree later in your career.

Assuming you are over 50 and started with Chevron early in your career, you will theoretically receive a year of severance, which is enough to go back to school for a masters degree to assist with reinventing yourself. A MBA and most masters programs takes less than two years so you may need to take out some loans or cash out equity in your home, but it is doable. You can also start receiving your pension to help bridge the gap. You have options.

"There IS life after CVX. Don't look back. You will make more, you will live in a better neighborhood, you will have better job satisfaction"

I would like to think this true in most cases but I'm afraid for workers over 50, it's a different story much of the time. Employers like to hire the youngsters they can work to the ground and pay less to. It's hard to find a new job when you're over 50 unless you're lucky enough to be in a field of high demand. If i had a spouse who could carry the load while I went back to school to reinvent myself, I would but I support myself and have a house payment each month.

If they are in scope for Alpha then they were not part of RAE. RAE was for CNAEP. Alpha is for corp centers. RAE wasn't enterprise-wide.

I question the accuracy of this post. I know two 2- folks and neither received a letter or call. They are both in scope for the Project Alpha ROM later this year though.

Well the Atlas acquisition was a resounding success! Maybe we can revive Atlas and give it back.

Not true. I have never gotten a 2- or a 3 in all my years at Chevron and was one of the persons in the CNAEP RAE.
