One federal law, the Worker Awareness & Retraining Notification Act (WARN), is somewhat related to severance pay. The WARN Act requires large employers to give employees 60 days advance notice of plant closings and mass layoffs. If an employer gives at least 60 days advance notice, no severance pay is required. But, if the employer fails to give the required notice, the law requires that the employer pay its employees for up to 60 days. This is the only federal law that even comes close to requiring severance pay, and it applies only to large employers and only to large layoffs so that it is by no means generally applicable to layoffs generally’
People who are prepared, perhaps?
134603 - Blindness, I was responding accordingly Mr jackass. Who doesnt get upset over layoffs?
Anonymous134600, why are you pissed. They have a plan, communicated it, and are executing it. If you didn't see this coming that is your own blindness
134560 - How is this mismanaged? They have a plan, communicated it and are in process of executing it. You sound like a scared little chicken waiting and stressing. Let it go man, since you cannot do anything about it. We are all nervous and pissed, but there is nothing that can be done. Wait it out.
Lucky would be the ones who would be on the list of lay offs. Such a sweet package they'd get.
IN the next waves of layoffs, package won't be as sweet.
Truth is everybody in my department looks more productive.
Some because they think productivity at this point will help them not be laid off.
Others because of engineering pride, and wanting to button up their stuff, if they were to leave.
Check back mid Seltember Durp Durp...
This is the most mismanaged layoff ever...If you're going to cut heads, you do it fast and you do it soon. You don't tell people you are going to do it, and then wait another 2-3 months to actually do it. People aren't going to be productive until next quarter after everything is done.... It would have been better just to cut people sooner, give them a longer package, get them out the door faster so everyone can move on.... Totally retarded.
There won't be until mid September. its 60 day notice before the actual unemployment which isn't til mid November
