Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Advise for Qualcomm people, especially for those who might be at risk during the layoffs.

First of all if you have a problem with your Sr. Director and above, it is best not to confront him or her or raise the issue to HR. Human resources will not take your side. If you have a problem with a director or below, you might have a better chance. Talk to this person directly and kiss ass and frequently go and say “I really want to make sure you are happy with me and you can count on me. Please advise me on how I can do things better. Show me the way”. Then wait for your time to move to a position that is good fit for you where you will shine. Don’t move to just anywhere. First make sure you will do a good job there, and 2nd find out how fair the lead for that team is. Also start applying for jobs elsewhere. Read next 2 comments for more:

Back on topic- Whenever you have a problem with someone above you, NEVER go to HR. If you have an issue you think is real, hire a lawyer. You pay them to be on your side. HR may sound sympathetic, but they are there to protect the company, not you, and that generally means supporting the person above you. This should be common sense.

@134704: Does that means when you get laid off, you could keep your phone even if you became jobless and homeless?

Thus is just a long winded ineffective ad for windows phone.

Hold your horses attacking the phone suggestion. Good employers will call you and get a feel of you as a real person. Email is only used for making arrangement and sending information. If you get laid off, you life will be in such chaos that you will be doubly stress trying to get a new phone.

Lol...If you get laidoff, the last thing you need to worry about is your verizon phone account... Besides, it's called number portability. Google Voice is your friend.

If you get notified that you will be laid off, get yourself a phone right away. They will not let you keep your current phone. Call the current provider about keeping your number. Verizon says you need to take over the current contract meaning you will be tied to that service provider until the contract runs out. If that is the case, you could take your number to another carrier ask that carrier if they will give you a new phone if you sign contract. Or simply get a new number. I recommend you try to keep your number with no contract. But you might not succeed. You might get a cheap windows phone and get month to month service. Window phones are quite good. Find out of the phone is listed for windows 10 upgrade.

Exercise all your options. Keep your RSUs if you must, but know that the application processor and the CPU are no longer viable businesses for Qualcomm. The current management and the culture is not viable for a success in other businesses either. The best that can happen is after massive layoffs QCT will be sold.
