Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Close to a third of Chevron employees in North America will be gone by December

I was privy to all the org charts guys and girls. 30% of the entire workforce is missing in the new org charts. This is for Houston and all the BU's. These org charts changed in the last few month drastically for the worse. I saw the preliminary layouts and what I saw today was well, unbelievable.....THOUSANDFS OF PEOPLE! DWEP, GOM, CBU, SJVBU, MCBU....corp, upstream......I mean whacked. AMBU was absent which means they are going to be absorbed in MCBU I believe. This makes 86 and 2000 look like cake walks!

I am sure you will get your wish. Cuts come in a drip, drip, fashion at Chevron. Little by little. I was a supervisor going through three rounds of budget cuts in early 2009 when oil got into the $30 range due to the stock market crash of October 2008. No layoffs for my team, but we had to cut some spending and contract work with each round. This is far from over.

I saw org charts online for ETC, new and old, but not for business units. The ETC org charts are the results of Alpha. I don't think upstream business units have gone through any significant cuts. RAE is nothing. Just a little trimming of the people based on perf ratings. I don't believe the org charts of upstream BUs have changed in any significant way. They really need to cut deeper. As a shareholder, I would like to see deeper cuts.

If you are referring to CP as ConocoPhillips they do have a cap, it is 60 weeks.

Severance is capped at 52 weeks which is a disservice to anyone with over 26 yrs at CVX. RDS and CP have no cap. So who is CVX targeting to leave early by EOI? Seems very odd indeed!

Has there been any announcements about this in any of the BUs? This sounds suspicious to me.

You know Chevron is shitting a brick because of this board! Because this is true. They don't want all of this getting out all at once. Most companies would have the same approach! But this is correct. The only thing more scary is there is another contingency for another layoff if prices do not increase! You do understand Chevron is has a negative cash flow issue. They will cut to save the dividend, but it's to late now to even save the dividend. These layoffs as massive as they are will not co0ver cash out for the failed MCP's. I am not sure if it is a good thing to get layed off or bad.....no one will want to be here a year from now. It will be torture. And yes thank God for this board. The Chevron shell game is exposed.

"If Chevron has any smartness left, they would cut more of the expats rather than non-expats. Expats are 3 times more expensive than non-expats"

No...instead SASBU will move a bunch of Americans from Houston to Luabda- the most expensive expat city in the world.

You could try going to the etc website and navigating to it. I don't have the link at the moment

This could all be eased if those 62+ would hit the door. They have plenty of money. But like greedy pigs, just keep lapping it up at the trough hoping to get some gravy before they leave.

Do you know when this process will start? Can I opt for "left standing" and take severance?

In ETC we received our org charts today. They made them available on the intranet. Sounds like the BUs are going to have new org charts too. Only none of their employees were made aware till now. In ETC we knew months ago we would be having major changes. Good thing we have this site to get everyone in the company up to speed with what is really going on.

What are these org charts you are talking about? Where do I get to see them?

These are current published org charts or will be published in a few weeks (I have seen them) and you won't say bullshit when you see yours. You will say the son of a bitch on that layoff board was 100% correct!. Houston's were released today and BU's are being rolled out now. So let's say you work in SC. You have a current org structure. That will go away and you will receive an org chart with no names just positions. This is the new org structure in which you will apply for a job. For the sake of argument let's say your job is still there. You must still apply for it and the 30% who lost there jobs will also be applying for it. To tired to explain Rom1 Rom2 Rom3....but its jacked up. People get ur heads out of the sand.

I just got off the phone with a buddy. The HES post is true! Let's hope they actually look at education, experience and core compentencies. It looks like that is not happening! It will be the buddy system as who gets the limited jobs remaining.

Are these current org charts or future projected org charts that they are driving towards?

Well that doesn't mean there's not fat to cut to contribute a bit to the bottom line (re:downstream). Our pensions cost just as much as yours.

Who keeps asking about downstream? Are you effing dense? Downstream went through their bloodbath years ago and you are making money hand over fist in this environment. Wake up, go back to sleep, or whatever helps your D.A.

I have to agree at least for HES in Houston. I got sick to my stomach and did not even count the box's....but it has to be more than 30 percent! ETC, Upstream capabilities, Corp blown up! Buzz Morris is no longer General Manager, Upstream Capability, Health, Environment, and Safety (HES). Why? His minions are gone! He has zero staff!!!!He is in a box by himself! I am in San Ramon and I firmly believe I am done! The cuts in HES are devastating.

Just remember, Pat Yarrington said that the number one priority for the use of cash is to pay the dividend. (That would imply that using cash to pay employee salaries is lower priority). She stated this in a Wall Street Journal interview in 2013, and has reaffirmed that priority several times this year in interviews and conference calls with the investment community. Problem is, Chevron does not make enough cash from earnings to cover the dividend. The whole point of paying a dividend is to return earnings to the shareholders. So if CVX continues to maintain the dividend and sacrifice everything else, perhaps a 30% cut in headcount is not out of the question.

Wonder if subsequent layoffs next year will offer the same severance package. Cash will be tighter and there will be a new crop of 2- and 3 rankings to release for performance which can be viewed as for cause. Would it be wiser to just opt for the package in the Alpha rom instead of waiting and possibly getting whacked next time around? Someone had mentioned the street not happy with chevron due to the package being more than required. Any of you all knowing ones out there have any insight?

BS. No one that really had this kind of information would disclose it. I do agree that it will probably be as bad as 86 or 2000 barring any major incidents in the middle east.
