@ 135197: Well.... I liked it, I could afford it, so I bought it. The fact that I can also use it as a tax deduction is icing on the cake! : D

I paid about $400 for mine. I like it a lot, it's fun and provides a ton of utility for me (including the visual appeal). It's a great conversation starter as well as people approach me and ask me about the item - needless to say, 400 bucks well spent for me. Now, I know we all have different points of view on how to spend money (e.g., I do not drink or smoke) and utility sources somewhat vary from person to person, however, this was perfect for me.

Anonymous135172: so you "saved" money by NOT buying something that holds its value, and used the savings to buy something that depreciates faster in % terms than just about anything else except for electronic junk (a car)? Yeah, real good move.

OP: I have a Fossil watch that I bought on sale over 10 years ago for $29.99. I bought it because it was allegedly waterproof. (I figured it was practically disposable if it wasn't, so I actually bought 2. I haven't used the second one yet.) Along the way, I found out it was virtually shock-proof, and also latex paint proof--once I peeled all the dried paint off the top of the crystal. All it has required is a new battery and new watchband every 2 years or so. With the money I saved on a frickin' status high-end Rolex or Tag Heuer, I bought a BMW.

No, actually I have a BMW and Porsche. But that's exactly the point. If I had a choice between paying the same amount to drive a BMW or Toyota Camry, I'd pick the BMW...A Tag Heuer has a lot more brand loyalty, classism, vanity. Which is why if I were going to spend $1000-1500 on a watch ,I'd get a real watch that holds value or might even go up over time. The Apple Watch is exactly like a Corolla. It's an appliance that is guaranteed to depreciate.
