I have 30 years and if they offered me a severance I would take it gladly and go. If they would have offered us older folks a severance to start with then the younger hands could have kept their jobs. I guess they thought too many would go!
In the ROM you are forced to post or quit (no severance) you must take an equal grade of job if offered or quit (no severance) if you stay and have over 26 yrs you work 1 year for free or 2 years at half pay etc because you didn't get the severance. Some people will be forced to quit/retire early in this situation so no need for a volunteer package like in the 1980's. It's a bit underhanded.
At least he got 37 years. It looks like I won't get 2 years
Sorry for my first post, still bitter. 136500 i sure hope your right, and even if you are not thanks for your input ; well said
Soon, they don't have any choice, they can't wait a year or two for these folks to leave, if they leave on their own Chevron doesn't get the "write down" of severance packages etc plus they are going to have to decide if they want to keep people ready to go or what they consider hi pots with no place to put them. They will save money (on paper) and boost earnings by letting people go.
Your going to miss out on the free lunches from Halliburton Some people even get to go on contractors jets without any trace of their particpation.
Several people have asked this question. I believe Chevron does not want to pay huge severances to people who will be retiring soon anyway.
