Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

There will be a bloodbath on Monday and I am part of it.

I've already brought all my stuff home. My source is credible, and I give him or her credit for having enough class to tip me off, especially knowing how detrimental that could be to the security of his or her own position (my boss's boss). I'm a bit sad, but extremely relieved as I have needed a change for quite some time but made too much money and was too much of a p-word to just quit. That is all.

@Yes UOP--you should have been 'laid off' years ago as you spell like a 3rd grader, retard.

The best business decision UOP could make is getting rid of you needs improvement lazy people who just collect a check since the matrix was removed. Cancers sucking any chance of hope from those who believe in UOP. I look forward to Monday even if I am layed off too!!!!

@ current employee (and anyone else) ........ if you had a "needs improvement" review last November and still have a job there past Monday, let me know. Monday will be a bloodbath, I assure you. It has nothing to do with current or recent performance or behavior. Needs Improvement reviews and those lacking degrees will be gone Monday. I, personally, am a "needs improvement" person and have already brought everything home and deleted everything non-work related from everywhere. On Monday, shit's getting real and it will be more massive than right after Thanksgiving 2010.

As a current employee of 7 years), I find these rants hilarious. A.) No one truthfully knows who or when any on is getting laid off. We MAY know mot after Monday. Its nothing but rumors. Ive heard something new every day this week. . B.) Regarding loan debt, keep in mind the STUDENT chooses how much loan debt to take on. Unless you are going to joe blow community college, UOP is right on track with our tuition/book rates. I know bc I have two Bachelor degrees from a major state school in Ohio. C.) My wife and I paid our loan debt off: $60k....in 6 years. Students take on the debt bc they are greedy and HAVE TO HAVE the extra loan fun for "expenses", aka, cars, toys and bills. We hear it every day. Dont blame a college for the financial incompetence of idiot students. Im 35, hate my job here at the college, have no debt bc I saved and budgeted every month, and may or may not have a job after Monday. I only ask you get your facts straight before ranting and making ludicrous comments regarding subject matter you dont understand (this includes being a diploma mill)

Monday = bloodbath. Numbers down. Executive Reaction - more cost cutting. Target #1 - employees and property. Layoffs and campus closure. Bankruptcy within 12 months. Good luck. If you have money saved, short APOL, there is no way in hell this brand can rebound. The Feds do not this model to survive, so it'll be phased out - pretty much any for profit will not exist in it's current form. Look at Corinthian, AI, ITT and a ton of other places - the game is over.

You're losing your job but maybe saving your soul.

Well, I don't know much about anything, but I can say I'm glad this is happening to me because I had been miserable for literally years, scraping by month after month, wondering when my time will come. My problem is that I actually cared about people and school and enrolling quality students. My retention rates used to save me years ago, but my front numbers were just never high enough to keep them happy because I tried to enroll people who were ready and well-prepared instead of pressuring people and begging them to start just to raise points on a trendline for someone's quarterly earnings report.

To those of you diligently working on finishing your degree, it doesn't matter. Future employers will throw up in their mouths when they see a UOP degree. It's a worthless piece of paper. Only a moron would waste her time at UOP in pursuit of a birdcage liner. The graduates of this school are the Forest Gumps of the world.

I have not completed my degree here yet and I know a lot of people who are still working on them. We were told like three years ago not to worry that we were grandfathered in. They better be severance package as I am being laid off and not fired.

You can hope I don't know shizz but what I do know is Monday is my last day and it will be the last day for many, many others. ..... worse than what happened right after Thanksgiving in 2010.

You don't know shizz or else you could say what the criteria is for . So you have your degree but you are getting laid off too? What was the reason they gave you ? A lot of people didn't get a degree here because they don't believe it is worth anything. When you apply for these other jobs you'll see how others view UOP degrees.

Well, without getting too specific, I can tell you what the criteria for getting cut is not: it is neither current performance levels nor current behavior. As jaded as we all could be about everything, if one were to be employed for so long at an educational institute, I strongly feel that it is reasonable to expect that he or she should at least have some sort of degree accomplished.

I'd feel pretty dumb for being cut for lack of degree, especially after working there for so long. I mean, who really knows better about that stuff than us, right? At least as I search for jobs I can look at ones that require a degree and have a little higher pay. I actually expect a call from some place today (and not a school - yay!).

You will be fine, Rasputin. I know the feeling and willfully left that hell hole. Life is better when you are not enslaving people to debt.

So many of these schools are damaging thousands of lives a year with debt and employees too scared or financially invested to put a stop to it all.
