Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Testing...testing...1,2,3....is this thing on?? Can the higher ups hear this? Because it is time to take notes...

Todays layoffs needed to happen. I know it is a hard fact to face, but it was nessesary. The layoffs were not the problem, how those let go were chosen, now that is the problem.

University of Phoenix grew too big too fast and in the process many people were promoted to

management and upper management that were not ready and not trained. The rapid growth allowed the wrong people to be placed into the wrong positions and that began the downfall. In addition, salaries went through the roof and enrollment as a whole began making way too much money. Now here we stand. We have management with poor leadership skills- the only place they are leading us is into the ground. We have enrollment advisors making 60-80k that are more worried about playing on their phones and streaming videos while they dial LM3s that they know will never pick up for hours rather than working hard to find and retain the right students. I swear if these people had to get another job today they would be lucky getting a job making 30k with their skills, but they managed to hit the UOP lottery at just the right time and did shady shit to enroll and get those 20% increases every 6 months and now they are lazy and overpaid. Meanwhile, you do have the few enrollment reps that work hard to do what is right for our students.

UOP needs to end this now. It is time to stop accepting mediocrity and raise the standards. Today many hard working people were let go, even some hard working pregnant people, while other lazy, overpaid, shady ERs stayed only to live another day of ping pong playing fun while our ship sinks. It is time to stop getting rid of talent, time to recognize talent and get the right people in the right positions and get rid of the the toxic waste- and there is a lot of it! Look around, there are way too many useless employees that are bringing us down because they can enroll and throw stuff at the wall, but they enroll crap and can't retain. It is time to trim the fat and recognize the worthy!!!! How can we expect our University to rise above and be the best if we don't even set any standards for our employees? We have created an entitlement culture within the company and it is time to put and end to it. WORK for your paycheck! And be rewarded for performance when you exceed the expectations! It is so simple it makes me crazy.

@111832--you were fired because your communication skills scream white trash. You are an exquisite example of a true Phoenix graduate, and you will likely struggle in finding a decent job in the future. It's not your fault. UOP pushed you through a program and gave, yes they bestowed upon you a degree, but it was not one that was achieved through a rigorous curriculum; it was just given away. There are thousands of YOU walking around with diplomas that are the equivalent of a high school diploma. I would consider going to your local community college to pursue something practical so you can secure a decent job in future. Good luck.

The 'wounded whining boars' are those that hold on to the hope that things will get better, that (crazy as it sounds) they might even be the catalyst for change. One day these poor souls wake up and realize that not only will things never change but no one cares about them, what they think, or how much they care. Then they're hurt and pissed off (naturally). University of Phoenix is the worse place I've ever worked. Most in Management are utterly incompetent. I've worked for a few companies and have friends that work/have worked for many different companies. University of Phoenix has such blatant disregard and disrespect for their employees it's amazing they an get anyone to work there; although everyone employee retention is a huge problem there. Whenever I here anyone say "UOP is a great place to work my guess is that A. they've never had a decent job to know what one looks like or B. they are heavily medicated. I'm so happy that I woke up went to my crappy job at UOP and quit -just like that and have never regretted that decision. BTW I later learned that within six weeks of my leaving only 1 person out of my team of 10 was still there. They all left. Small wonder.

I was enrollment for years. I did my job very well and helped many student complete the programs. I joined UOP because I believed in the vision of Dr. Sperling. Without this vision I would not not been able to obtain my first degree to being with. What really is going down is this. The new hires that got brought on less then a year ago still are standing. UOP was not looking at the job you do but how much they pay into your salary and also the 401k they were investing. See if you are money to them. It is not how much you bring in but how much they spend on you. I was a top enroller at my campus but I was one of the higher paying too. Tell me why people with an average of 1-3 enrollments stayed and I was let go. Anyways for me it does not matter anymore, I move on and up. I feel sorry for all the people who did not deserve to be let go while others that are crap are still there. Best of luck everyone. make you you file for unemployment today if you have not already.

I don't wish anyone to lose their job, but honestly you all sound like a bunch of whining wounded boars. If UOP is such a bad place why are you so upset that you were laid off? Shake it off and get a new career and stop whining. The time you spent complaining on here you could have been sending out resumes. Good luck.

I'm still baffled at how they did it. They hired those new hires less than a year ago. I know I was laid off because my manager gave me a needs improvement review. I've never had a bad review in my life and it was undeserved. My conversions were good, referrals were decent, good team player etc. but she had it in for me and my colleague who came from another tea from the beginning. I feel pretty screwed over but no more so than anyone else. As for cell phone usage come on we know that doesn't define anyone. Dialing is boring, tedious, and nobody picks up. Anything that stimulates thought at that point is going to make you better able to take the calls hours later once your brain shuts down.

I'm gone either way but the way this unfolded was terrible. My stomach was in knots for months and last week my chest was so tight I thought I was having a heart attack. All I felt was relief when I got that email. I don't have to sit in another 1on1 with an incompetent leader so that's winning enough.

everything that you all have said is true. They knew for MONTHS that this layoff today would happen, yet they kept it a secret. wow, how is that in your mission statement? Let's blindside a lot of good people. NOT ONCE was I EVER warned to hurry and get a degree or you cannot work here. I was going to school, a school btw, that was founded on the whole"Adult learning model" The reason adults don't have their degree is that they have to work. UOPX wouldn't even let us have an hour off to go to an actual class. We cared about our students but the University does not hold the ER's in the same light. When Romney found out that people had leaked the news, he was pissed. Really? blindsiding good folks is acceptable? I hope that you at least warn people when the University goes under...

There are enrollment counselors that enroll less students than you, have no degrees and are still working at UOPX today. You should rally together!

Find out why you were "laid off" and join forces to sue Apollo for discriminating against you. I work for HR and there are hundreds of people currently employed with no degrees that barely enroll. If you get a half way decent lawyer it will be found it was wrongful termination. Besides after you severance is taxed at 30% minus your vacation your left with a few hundred dollars

The managers and directors that stayed are a joke. The ones who got laid off today were good people. I consider them lucky to be free of this sinking ship. There is no turning that place around with these ass clowns running the show.

Not addicted you are right. It cracks me up that they fire ERs that make less but enroll more than the more tenured ERs. I guess it makes sense. lol.

Maybe when upper management is pouring over statistics, which as we know always tells the whole story, they should add a couple of new categories: (ASM) Average Smartphone minutes per ER and Work Time versus (TLLW) Time Looking Like you Work.

Yes, cheers to 2018. Hey, maybe Forrest Gump will stop in and play some ping pong too!

Dr Sperling needs to come back and haunt all these bastards that ruined his vision. I thought UOP was good, but after seeing who was let go and who stayed all I could think is look at all these ERs that got something on their manager or director. Anyways, good riddance and bankruptcy couldn't happen to a better organization!

Exactly! And these lazy ERs sure know how to manipulate the stats to make it look like they are enrolling and dialing- too bad their enrollments only stay in class just long enough to post into class two and count as a REG then the ER leaves them to fall off the planet. But on the bright side boy are their ping pong skills top notch!!!!!

UOP has got to be the most mismanaged organization in the world. I hope all the leadership especially in the the school of business get the axe because they have no backbone. It's funny considering they are all prior military. Sellouts!

I too was let go today after just a little over a year. I was raised with a strong work ethic and taught that you work for the money you earn. I can say that every day I did my best, and was always trying to do better. Conversely, I too was amazed at the leaches who spend just as much time on their iPhone texting, viewing social media or streaming movies, as they did actual work. There was absolutely no consistency in those that were laid off. Some didn't have their degrees, others had been there several years and were making good money, and some of us were newer, given the task of enrolling for states where most of the students inquiring were going through the motions just so they could get Pell grant money to use on something besides school. Many of them are not even what I would call literate.

A lot of good and hard working people were mistakenly let go today and what remains is not going to be enough. Typical corporate misguided mentality used today in many of the people who lost their jobs. They can say what they want and think they are going to bring the business back around, but from my business experience and knowledge I think it is safe to say that it's too little too late for the University of Phoenix. It's a sinking ship that can't be saved.

I am not at UOP for a sales position and it is that thinking that needs to end. I am here to help students earn a degree and better their lives through education. I tell students daily it is not a good fit- I don't "sell" them on choosing us if it is not in their best interest. This is an educational institution and not a car dealership.

It's an average company with average people. No great sales staff or leadership. That's why I got my MBA and bounced because I'm making 3x what a good EA makes. If any of you were great sales people you wouldn't be at uop

I was one of the hard workers you are talking about. I was bought into the "new" plan long ago and if someone was not up to it, I would advise them correctly (community college). I was able to enroll 5-7 student per month with an 85-90% retention rate after the 4th class. I didn't make much money either, compared to people from the Matrix days. I worked hard for my students... They completed at least 2 workshops before class started, in the first class I required they talked with me a min. of 3 times a week. As a graduate I knew tools and tricks that they all knew about and had practice using. I am not bitter in fact I am rather indifferent tonight... This give me the option to choose my own path before a collapse. You are correct! It's not the Executive team it's our "In the Club" middle management team. UOPX lost a lot of great people today but, I think they had to because the Fed's wouldn't let them fire bad employes.

I was one of those that was let go today. I will be ok but what about all those students that I enrolled and said I would be there with them until they graduate. I busted my ass while the same people you described keep their jobs while building bigger armies in Clash of Clans and preparing for the ping pong championships. Am I bitter? I guess I am because I believed in UOP and now I just want to find one of their main competitors and steal their students. I am enrolled in my last class and will do my best to stay away from this place until they clean the garbage out and stop hiring a bunch of potheads and people with DUIs.
