If you are a SW developer, then Bay Area is awesome. Not that great right now for Systems, firmware/hardware or PM type positions even here. Issue is most QC folks are not good SW developers. Integrating HLOS code or modifying low level drivers and BSP type applications is not software coding.
Most people are afraid of a change in their lives to the uncertain future. Once you walk out of a dismal working environment, unsatisfactory work conditions/assignments with a 6 figure salary, you'll be afraid no more. Why Wait, just do it!

I left Q last year and got a severance package and a new job with a raise. It's not as hard as you might think.
Then GTFO of San Diego and move up to NorCal. Bite the bullet and take out a bigger loan. That's what everyone does in the SF Bay Area and you don't need to worry about it because your new salary can support the payments. Plus, you can use your GTFO package as part of the down payment
Because in San Diego if you wait until everyone is laid off, you ain't going to find shit at a decent pay. Simple supply and demand. Why is this so hard for people to understand?
