Can't believe the marketing genius decided this was the best they could come up with while the company sinks.

Media-FLO was a brain-dead idea. The only engineers I knew who worked on it, got sucked in, kicking and screaming, "Either work on this on you're fired! Now move it, PRIVATE!" The idea would have been innovative in 1975. In 2010 it was so demented, nobody watches broadcast TV any more! Only Qualcomm could have the stupidity to work on imitating European-Tech (DVB-H)! The only people who could invest in such an idea, let alone blow $1.0B+, are out-of-touch CEO's in their 40's and 50's who watched broadcast TV in their kids and who had lost touch with reality...
I used to work in advertising and PR in a previous life. QC's marketing sux. "Why wait...." was poorly timed--given the state of the company's financials and the impending layoff rumors. It does NOT inspire investor confidence. Someone who is ESL would probably wonder, "Why what?" In other words, if you aren't already familiar with the products, you have no clue what the product is. If it's the "crapdragon" series, it probably should be: ""Why wait? Scrap this sucker now! Before the company dies a slow and painful death...." In short, this does not bode well for a company that claims to have global aspirations.
"Go Brain Go" was worse...
Eudora was a great product. Flo was a disaster for the reason stated, stake content, no DVR or time shifting. That was idiot management at work, afraid to buy ATV train for the right to transmit fresh content.
The biggest flop was Globalstar though, even with the exploding rocket "accident"
Beneath the api, both Java and Brew had an "engine" and a "distribution system".
Java just did it so much better and elegantly than Brew at the time. I still have a job because I mastered both of them, with ease :-)
How did you manage to hang on this long ;-)
Brew was an api not a programming language. It facilitated the distribution of apps to mobile devices 10 years before the app store paradigm. I swear I don't know how some of you have a job.
Just to be clear, the post from Anonymous112583 was not mine. So at least two people in the company think this is the worst ad campaign ever.
Why Wait is the stupidest campaign ever. Any engineer with any brains and skills who is capable of thinking for himself/herself knows that. So out of touch with anything creative/cool/innovative ... and demoralizing also. Whatta f'ng joke.
BREW was/is a Java wanna-be, terrible, Windows COM incarnated, ouch!
MediaFLO was a great idea, except it didn't do live TV as it was supposed to do.
Eudora was a crappy e-mail reader, even at it's time, but some folks still liked it. It's now Open Source, so eat your heart out.
Trivia fact for some of you oldies.... One of Qualcomm lesser know products was a really cool email app called Eudora.....I actually knew a few people that use to work on it...
Brew wasn't bad... While it lasted...
MediaFLO was doomed from the start, because the name is only clever if you are a CDMA nerd. It's like naming your barbershop quartet "The B-sharps"
Anonymous112496, I have to say that HR is not paying you enough.
OP - You have obviously have a major beef with anything that is related Q. Why so much hate? Its not like you own the company or anything?
MediaFLO was absolutely NOT a great execution of an idea. Because the powers that be (i.e., Paul) hired Numbnuts Novak, none of the content provided by the networks was current. So you could either watch Letterman live on regular full-screen TV or wait and see it the next day on a tiny little FLO device screen. Not exactly a tough choice, especially when Verizon charged an extra $15 a month for the customers to see stale video that was already obsolete by the time it was viewable.
MediaFlo was a great idea but Qualcomm Executive Management diverted funds to properly promote it to R&D instead.
Am think it should be "Why wait to sell your shares of QCOM". Then you don't need the question at all.
We have Lansing, Susan to thank for the WhyWait ad campaign. What's even more unbelievable is how the f**k the budget for this lame campaign got approved in the first place.
Q phone was cool enough for Mot to sue over the design
Well, to be fair... Qualcomm has NEVER been good at marketing, ever since it first started out. I remember when they ran commercials for their "Q" phone (the flip phone) back in the early 90ies. Now that was a terrible phone. Come on, give Q a break....It's a chip company. How "cool" do you think a company filled with freaks and geeks can be? I mean, it's not like they have a marketing budget like intel.....
