He was the only VP or Sr director that was essential to running the Linux teams. It is a big loss. All the rest should have left instead, the day to day Linux activities would not have been impacted at all.

If he was very competent does it mean smart n competent people are leaving qcom now ?

Did he go on his own or he was let go by qcom?

For those of you that don't know. The joke about android is that it's the best closed open source project ever. And that's one of the reasons why cyanogen exists. To cut the dependency from Google's roadmap

I dont think many of you know about the company he went too. Cyanogen has a pretty high bar to get in. The fact that cyanogen wanted him speaks a lot about him. Cyanogen isn't known to hire slouches. Most of you wouldnt make the cut as an engineer. Sorry. That is the truth.rumor has it they are working on an open source platform including something with hardware.

I second anonymous 114059. There are so many director sr.director sr.staff who are adding no technical value other than being pain in ass by doing + in emails and taking credits at end. I don't know which book says doing + in emails is job of sr.staff or director . I don't know which school says lead does not have to work technically, only principal engg need to be technical and director just need to bother about resource , machine capex ...( all this is PM job who don't have much technical knowledge and can happily do + in mails to right engineer)

How many of you worked for him in his group? He was one of the very few senior directors who was actually competent and deserved his position.
