Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I am getting fired and so is 34% of my department

My boss just called me to say he is resigning and won't be into work. He let me know I am on the list. I know he was involved in the ROM so he would know. Oh well, I guess it's unemployment time. I have only worked for Chevron for 2 years. I moved to Houston for the job. I am single and in my 30's so not as bad as it could be. I want to stay in Houston anyway. I did ask Chevron if the market tanks and I get layed off do you offer moving assistance back home. They said if you get layed off within that time Chevron will move me home. My boss told me Chevron has changed its mind and will not help any employee with moving. There is an employee in our group that moved here 7 months ago with a wife and 7 kids. He is getting layed off to. He kept saying "Well Chevron will at least move me home if I get layed off." NOPE! What a horrible company to do that!

Hmmm this is interesting. I have never worked with managers that are flat out bullies. I don't think Chevron explicitly supports these behaviors but by ignoring them and moving these employees on they implicitly endorsed them. Now these leaders are at a critical mass. It is obvious that the other camp is afraid of the bully camp. I would love to snap them up by the ear and kick there ass's out. This is the only place I believe where physical altercation at work is not immediate termination???????

One of my brilliant Chevron managers actually flipped me off in a team meeting and another one created false evidence during a PWC audit. They investigated the allegation of cheating on the audit however in their infinite corporate wisdom, decided he was a valuable employee and did nothing so yeah, he still works there. I have a love/hate relationship with Chevron but they seem to value their cut-throat managers way too much to do anything to them other than promote them.

Anonymous 114519, believe as you wish. Management will ROM an employee in a sneaky maneuver. Theit ultimate outcome is to get rid of an employee down line. This is to avoid paying severance and avoid having to report large layoffs to the state. I've been on the committee who decided which employee stayed and which were let go. There are 3 buckets that the employees were classified in: keep, let go now, let go later.

If? There is no if. ROM is being employed.

If there is a ROM, Chevron will only offer an airplane ticket to get you back to Houston. Then it is up to you arrange and pay for a relocation company to pack and ship your belongings and find your own way back to your ultimate home. Ask those who were affected by accelerated downstream about the struggles to get out of Nigeria.

We had to accept or decline a new position on the spot. There was no time to think. We all had no idea what the new position was and was told that we should be grateful to still have a job.

If we declined then we had until the end of the day to clear out our desks and find our own way out of the country because HR would not help with any of the travel or relocation arrangements.

Your boss is RESIGNING? Doesn't sound like any Chevron "leaders" I know! 99% of them are pure weasel and resigning isn't in their game plan.

You about the PSG system? There's an equivalent system simultaneously in use at Chevron - the VSG. You know what I'm talking about.

Do not report being called any names, abuse, physical violence. Chevron says there is no retaliation. We all know that is a lie. Ask the people at AMBU and CBU that got canned.

So they are not going to move people back within that 2 year period????? Did they say that publicly. Did they move people back who were in PA or now in Canada?

You know any other company it would be hard to believe that a professional would say such a thing, but here at good old Chevron, the more ignorant the more believable. I am half Polish I bet your supervisor would say some good Pollock jokes at team meetings,,,did you hear about the Pollack who....:-) Oh and quit complaining everything is cool we have a black president :-). He is a halfy too and he says he is all black lol. I am laughing typing this....

Cough Cough yes it does matter. Here is the Law. "The law does not cover oral communications when the speakers do not have an "expectation that such communication is not subject to interception under circumstances justifying such expectation." See Texas Crim. Proc. Code § 18.20. Therefore, you may be able to record in-person conversations occurring in a public place, such as a street or a restaurant, without consent."

Oh that sucks. Did he tell the rest of the people? LOL on the black thing. That whole BEN thing is a joke at most BU's. It's 90% white as there are no black employees. The jist is to actually recruit people of color not have meetings. F*** CHEVRON!

Yes I agree. I joke about it quite a bit actually. Even in the office on the down low. When my white friends fo to the BEN meetings I give them honoree black names, Lashay, DaQuan so its not like I am some prude.

You had a decent supervisor. My supervisor said this to me yesterday. "I think your job will be eliminated but you should be OK because you are half black." Really who says that that type of stuff in a professional company. I thought I was at a Chevron gas station not a corporate office. She did leave me with this today. "I think its OK to let people you are not fully black. If you are half its considered the same as being totally black." Really? Really???? I will say this, that the second part of the conversation took place at lunch. Under Texas law I can tape a conversation in a public place without consent. That comment is so unbelievable you have to have it on tape to believe it. Chevron is a horribly run company.
