Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Question for those who have survived many ROMs. What's the secret for survival? Is it better to be a 21 than a 22? A 23 vs a 24?

The decisions were made way before AMBU ROM took place.... They set people up for failure by putting the wrong leaders in place for development positions, and that is what they are, development positions that didn't have experience, but they think know it all. In the real world when you asses are laid off, you will find out what a real job really is and you will have to think out of the box. That is if you can get a real job, because you were overpaid for your job at Chevron.

You people are ridiculous. I've worked for Chevron for 26 years, and you don't have a clue. Anyone can post on this site, write any anonymous comments they wish without foundation. Any job is what you make it and Chevron is one of the best companies to work for. Sounds like we have some dead weight on board with the Chevron welfare recipients. Wish I knew who they were cause I'd fire them.

I tend to agree with that guy/gal

welp there you have it. 40%

i think at least that IT arm of ETC should be cut or absorbed into ITC. never understood why we have both of those. they basically do the same stuff.

i see something like UC or global functions making a little (but not that much) sense because global helps to standardize and streamline for SBU functions. or at least that's the goal.

but ETC's IT piece and ITC are basically competing for our business.

I'm etc. 25% is not enough. Something closer to 40% is better.

ETC is supposed to be the home of SMEs.. But many are pretty terrible and just as inexperienced. It's time to trim the fat. 25% sounds about right.

I know our group had contractors that counted as alpha reductions... So 25% isn't for just blue badges.

Yeah NBD. 25% of support groups are disappearing. I'm suuuuurrrreeee they will ALL get jobs elsewhere in the company if they are mobile. That's nearly 1,000 people from ETC alone. Get real.

So the stuff about AMBU ROM being random... I don't think it's random at all. I think it's just CVX keeping folks that were not tied down to PA area and would move out to other SBUs. You already see after their ROM that they're slowly moving the model Chevron people out of AMBU because AMBU isn't going to be around much longer. A lot of folks quit and found other jobs anyway If they couldn't move away from Pittsburgh. If you got left standing and were mobile, they moved them to other parts of the company awaiting this next ROM anyway to see what positions will open up. Basically if u played the game and wanted a job, u can get one. NBD...

Where is all this happening? I'm in Houston and got in trouble for just being a little outspoken, being sharp and doing my job. The impression I've had of Chevron is that you can't do or say anything! I work with a bunch of pussies including my management! They're a bunch of sissies!

i don't know about the decisions being "random".... it might not be logical, but certainly not random. people who play the game with the right people rise to the top. that's true of many organizations around the country. it is unfortunate, but that's life.

Lol a friend emailed me this. This is all true. It's so far out there one would think it's flat out impossible. But it's all true. It's sad as a Chevron has the opportunity to get back to what made it great. I am retiring at the end of the summer. I truly don't know how this company let this happen. We have let bullies rise to the top. Good luck guys and gals and remember these posts so you know these decisions are not personal. They truly are random.

They already know who they are going to keep. No one looked at your GO 400 or did any due diligence. I asked a manager that would know about the ROM. He is now in Houston..What did they say when you asked "How can you as leadership justify some of these grossly negligent moves/" Answer from the Leadership at the BU including VP Nigel Hearne. "We don't have to justify anything."

Well I will through my 2 cents in. In my department there were two employees that knew they were done. One, a year earlier ()a high school educated West Virginia Hill Billy got pissed that the woman he was having an affair with went back to her husband who also worked there. He brought a gun into work, Threw the guy on a table, and put the pistol to his head.....He got promoted in the ROM. When the gun incident was brought up in the decision meeting Chevron leadership said he change lol. The second guy was 3 years before, on a small Podunk town council and got a managers son off of a DUI. He was magically hired. He had no experience and was functionally illiterate. He could not use email of course and had to have other employees take his Chevron LMS classes .He got promoted. Oh his main source of income prior to being a manager at Chevron was working at a spray on bed liner place....as the sprayer :-).....If anyone ever goes to Smithfield and u ask about the above....they will tell u it's true.

Nobody would watch the sitcom....they would say this is just to unbelievable.

The long post is correct....D&C manager pulled out a hunting knife on a guy! All of it is true! I wonder if it will be different in Houston? The good part is there is more leadership eyes on the ROM process, but the bad part is there is more leadership eyes on the ROM process.

Can others comment if other bu's gm's were present during rom. I have noticed the vacation schedules of key leadership seem to line up with phase 3 alpha. I wonder if the team advised that they take off.

OMG, 114532 you are so right... ROM was run incorrectly, you had inexperienced HR running around acting like children, but no one would speak up. They made sure the right people were not at the table so they wouldn't challenge their decisions. Nigel was no where to be found.

As the long post above reads. It does not make sense. And why should Chevron be able to manage a reorg when it can't manage any thing else.

Well I had the privilege of being through two. AMBU and CBU. Absolutely no rhyme to reason. They will first roll out a completely different org chart. In theory it looks fine. There will be very short job descriptions that are so high level they are meaningless for each box.. Duing each phase.....4 of them but first does not county as all the leaders stay the same. of them you can apply for 3 positions in each ROM and if you are not selected in that ROM you can apply for a PG below in the next ROM. Also it was very clear Chevron thought D&C should have absolute power in choosing who went where I am a D&C guy and they we are the last people you want to pick OC for a new org chart. First ROM round they choose the leadership.....so at the BU level all of the VP's direct reports. And yes, no change at all in the incompetent leaders who sunk these BU's. And it is just magic that those 18 or so people all had box's....AMAZING ISN'T it. Then they start round two. So I was in the room for this totally bizarre process. The D&C group would yell the loudest and get a young completions engineer a top leadership spot that is critical in the success of the new organization. I would ask what does this job entail, what are the deliverables, how is success measured. what skills sets are needed both people and technical wise. NO CLUE WHAT THESE JOBS DID OR ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. All high level responses like "Lead Work" (BTW BCG put together the jobs and descriptions). NO DISCUSSION OF EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, INTERPERSONAL SKILLS etc. HR and HES was the most bizarre. The HES manager was on his way out....forced out from being a total goof. talking about sex in front of woman, throwing objects at managers and co workers....now he is leaving this summer. THEY LET HIM CHOOSE THE HES ORG. He bullied and would not budge on his friends. For the two main leadership positions in HES he chooses an ass kisser. GED no HES experience!!! NONE! He did one page permit applications. I challenged and challenged and challenged this....he was a high PG23. No technical or managerial experience and had all kinds of HR issues....bad stuff...sexual advances to direct reports, yelling and screaming at people. But to no avail he was placed in that position?????? The hotline had 100's of calls after this selection....they investigated and found that he had no qualifications and was incompetent. NO CHANGE???? I use this example because he could not complete a one page form for me to drill a well.....I offered to complete them. Now there are dozen and dozens more examples. And believe it or not there are some great people at that BU. But they mostly got let go?? The 10 year very capable CHevron people were 'Left Standing" and they got a job elsewhere...others that were SME's in shale/tight gas were kicked out the door. All of the expats and contractor stayed on??? The VP said they would the the first to go??? Then it was clear, nobody took responsibility for the contractors....THEY FORGOT. IT WAS SAID OVER AND OVER THAT ONLY THE BOX"S WOULD STAY NO CONTRACTORS. NO SUPPORT STAFF NADA. They forgot lol. Now fast forward 6 months. No one understands there job functions and deliverables. So I move from D&C and now a project execution manager....O.K. No one on the project team has any experience on the asset. They are all knew. They did not backfill there old position and nobody knew what they did so work just stopped. You can't frac without sand and water. The D&C manager is a complete idiot. He threatened and employee with a weapon. TRUE! He chose his minions. I guess I was one of them. Now you will like this. the reorg/ROM made a horrible situation way worse. I suggested a look back at how decisions were made and the impact. So we don't do the same thing over again in Canada. I got a talking to by the VP in AMBU,...little Nigel Hearne, that got transferred because of the Richmond Refinery explosion. Shut up and worry about drilling....er um Project execution. He said I would not have a job if I talk about look backs. I can go on and on and on and on.....just know it makes no sense. BCG actually ran the show when they canned the people. Chevron can't even lay people off. Everyone gets called into a building and you are told if you have a job or not. Black water security was present that day. 20 or so E Class black Mercedes in front. SNIPERS ON THE ROOF.....TRUTH!!!! 20 or so men in suites and 15 or so 12 dollar an hour security guards to follow you to the office where they tell you if you are fired or have a job. I go on and on not to bitch but to at least show how dysfunctional this mess was. I truly thought they would at least get this right???????? Nope.
